State Mandated BS that will cost you $$$

BOHICA!!

Link to pdf.

California Air Resources Board (CARB) has proposed an effective date of September 1, 2010, for the adoption of Section 95550 in Title 17 of the California Code of Regulations.

This regulation will require automotive service providers to check and inflate the tires of each passenger car brought in for service to its recommended tire pressure rating. This will be required in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from underinflated tires.

Among the requirements automotive service providers will be expected to meet are checking and inflating each vehicle’s tires to the recommended tire pressure rating at the time of performing any automotive maintenance or repair service, as well as indicating on the vehicle service invoice that a tire inflation service was completed.

Ouch this could be bad if you have nitrogen filled tires

You have to get a tank or a generator

I don't see the issue?

Just making sure you got enough air in your tires...

Although, if they think that there are THAT many under inflated tires to make a significant difference, they are wrong.

A good 10-20% of cars I drive at work have the TPMS light on (of the ones new enough to be so equipped). Although they also say "9,000 miles passed service C."

Shouldn't a good shop be looking after it's customers with such an easy thing anyway? But I guess if you're only used to doing the bare minimum then this will be an annoyance.

Next it will be state mandated steering wheel friction test to be sure the driver has positive contact the the wheel at all times followed by state mandated wiper blade efficiency ratings.

Sounds like a good reason to change tire/wheel size, and strip the recomended inflation numbers out of the door frame.

Just bring it in, if they do this, and state quite clearly in the notes "DO NOT ADJUST TIRE PRESURE"
