One more doctor/lawyer comment. Doctors won't do ****e for you but prescribe muscle relaxants, anti-inflamatories, and do physical therapy. If you have health coverage this will not help you get a settlement.
If your back or neck hurts and you want to FIX it, go to a well-known and respected CHIROPRACTOR, if one exists near you. Discuss the situation beforehand with them and often they will bill the insurance company directly.
Your settlement is often based as a factor of your medical costs, so if you have Kaiser and you just got a bunch of drugs prescribed, you may be out of luck. A good chiropractor will fix your problem, and you may end up with a nice settlement.
I got hit almost head-on on a city street, had $4k in chiropractic bills, and got a "no-haggle" settlement of $4k or so after paying off the chiro bill (it was so long ago I forget!).
NOTE: There is a 1 year statute of limitations in CA by which you must file a lawsuit if you haven't settled with the insurance company in a year. IMO, you should call the ins company of the guy that hit you and ask for a settlement offer once your you the extent of you doctor visits. They will often low-ball you, but remember lawyers get a FAT chunk if you involve them, and in cases like this it's a waste. If the insurance company stalls to around one year, you can file a lawsuit or have a law office do the paperwork for a small fee. When you get a settlement, you'll have to sign something indicating you will never go after them again if you end up a paralized or something...
Anyways... good luck

I've had a serious of serious back and neck injuries over the years and if it wasn't for PT I'd be SCREWED!!!!
in my opinion going to a chiropractor without also going to a PT is complete and utter stupidity.
the chiroprator can smooth out the rinkles and align the BONES but in any back/neck injury that is not the only problem. Without strengthening the muscles and repairing torn/pulled muscles and retraining them your bones will just go back to how they were when they were messed up.
I spent 6 months strait going to a chiroprator up to 3 times a week on top of the probably 50 other times I've been to one over the years to fix various things or get a few touch ups. If it hadn't been for me getting massage and PT mixed in with those it would have been a waste.
Maybe I'm biased because I use to live with a physical therapist but i doubt it.
Chiropractors can only do so much.
my advice. Go to a chiropractor that has a massage therapy unit attached to it. Get adjustments and massages everytime you go in. Then pay a visit to a quality PT person and have them look over your xrays and doctors notes.

Having been in a car accident earlier this year where I hit a rather solid object at slow speed (cow @ 25mph) and got "Moderate Whiplash", I concur completely with the CHIROPRACTOR, MASSAGE & PHYSICAL THERAPY routine for back injuries. I now have FREE Chiropractor, Massage and Physical Therapy for one year from the date of injury.

But yeah, I'm going to a chiro in my area that has a full time massage therapist attatched to his office. So I'll be going in there about twice a week until I've made full recovery. As for the car, I received a call from insurance today, and it's totalled. Looks like I'll be going to pick up my new EVO IX soon as they cut me the check.
