As a current active duty service member my suggestions if you want to still serve this country:
-There are 4 other branches, Army, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard (CG is tougher than the AF to get into)
-Goverment contracting/employee, there are tons that specialize on equipment or provide services etc to support the military efforts and work hand in hand with uniformed service members, ie Military Sealift Command
-Volunteer, there are numerous organizations that help like the Navy League, CG foundation etc...

I hate to say it though, but your health issues may hinder you from any branch of service as everyone goes to their local MEPS to see the same doctors and receive the same recommendations. Similar health problems often end the careers of many of service members who recieve the injuries as part of their day to day jobs, so your best bet would probably look into becoming a civilian contractor/employee.

Good thing the Air Force doesn't read everything you write online...

...not sure, but I think we could come up with posts talking about how you have to be medicated to fly...

waivers daniel. see another recruiter and apply as linguist id suggest. the height thing sounds bogus to me as in ARS ( air refueling squadron) we work with there's a few giant like pilots with almost the same height as you if not taller. also who denied you medically? MEPS or was it the recruiter just speaking outloud? its the recruiter's job to weed out folks but its up to meps to determine whether or not you can be accepted medically. also there are recruiters specifically assigned to deal with people applying for officers as well as enlisted

Good on you for trying anyway. If you want to help anyway, you can alway volunteer with vet assistance groups or the USO.

Those are just a few, there's many other ways to help out active duty and veteran troops.
With a degree in Physics he would be an officer. If they didn't have him as programmer, then he would be an O-1 (second lt.) or possibly and O-2 (due to life experiance)...the problem with going in as an O-2 is that he would be unprepared for military life and make all of the O-1 errors as an O-2 and this could impact a military career badly.

You are also very tall, it's hard to find clothes that fit and other issues due to size.

I don't know of anyone who had metal plates or pins in BEFORE being the military who was accepted, they just don't waiver that stuff unless you are already in.

Daniel,

If you have a BS in Physics, why aren't you working in a physics lab, I know the work is mostly boring, but the pay is good and if you can get them to issue you a security clearance your income has great potential. I have a couple of friends, just with a BS in Physical Science that got jobs at Lawrence Livermore Labs and UC Berkeley and one working for Chevron in Louisiana....all of them make more than I do (BSEE).

I'm in the same boat. First thing I need to do is lose weight before attempting to join (specifically, National Guard).

I gotta knock the fat right out!

And if the military branches really are in their "overflow mode", that sucks because I really want to join!

If it makes you feel any better, my female cousin got rejected from all armed forces for being too fat.
