.338 leaves the barrel at 3000ft/s, and does not drop to under 2000Ft/s for just under 1000 yards. So even out to 1000 yards you only see 1" deflection, and wont see more than another 10" of deflection tell it hits almost twice that. So once it gets out around the 8000 foot mark, it drops exponentially due to its velocity being under 1200Ft/s, still quite deadly however. In fact it should remain deadly down to around 800Ft/s (about the speed of a .22)
