Where to buy a dog?
Where to buy a dog?
Does anyone know a good place in the Bay Area to buy a dog? I'm looking for probably a Chow Chow if i had to be specific but wouldn't mind looking at other small dogs.
They have to be babies still thought because i'm planning on buying one for my mother, for mother's day.
Thanks

as others said, pick up a dog from the shelter. However if you really want a pure breed, do a TON of research, and know it ain't cheep to get a dog from a reputable and registered breeder. I am getting a Keeshond pup from a breeder in socal and its $1500 for her, PLUS all the shots, checkups, food, new crate, trip down to get her.
The shelter dog is the way to go man, and they will love you back without question.

If I am not mistaken, it is very difficult to get someone a dog from a shelter as a gift. Getting someone an animal as a gift is not always a good idea, as they are such a HUGE responsibility. The shelters do not want to see the dog back at the shelter 2 weeks after the person realizes they weren't ready for a dog. Most reputable breeders wont allow for that either, unless they meet the person who will actually be getting the dog.
not if you do the research and go to a reputable, and registered breeder. However like I pointed out, your going to pay $1000 and up for such a dog, and unless you are looking to show or compete (as I am) then its not the way to go.
+1 for shelter
If you can, tell everyone that you're looking for one. You might get lucky like me and my gf -- a close friend of ours received a black pug for free (can't remember the story behind it). We babysat(?) for Maxx for one night, and that's all it took for us to decide to adopt him

+1 on shelter, but you have to know...usually shelter will need the future owner to attend a training class and before you adopt, and 3 months of review after adopt...if i'm rite..
I was looking at a Komondor last year and from a very good breeder in Oregon, they were $1,000 for a non-show non-breeding dog.
The show quality or breeding dogs were $1500 and up.
And dont get a chow. My mom has two chihuahuas and they are very good dogs, very cuddly and well behaved.

Do not buy a dog as a gift.
You can offer a dog as a gift, but do not buy a dog as a gift.
A dog is not a mothers' day card. A dog is not a bouquet of flowers. A dog is not a lamp. A dog is a living creature. Do not buy a dog as a gift.
