Smog and ecuTEK with stock parts
Been a while since I've been here...I have 04 Forester XT that was ecuTEK tuned many, many years ago. I have since replaced the bolt on parts back to stock to pass smog the past couple times without any issue, but I'm getting ready for the new smog laws for my smog check later this year and not sure what's going to happen.
Anyone with experience with this? Will the smog check system automatically detect the license/map/tune and fail the test? If so, what other options to pass:
- Find used/new OEM ECM and swap it out
- Bring it back to a tuner to pay to remove the license and flash back to stock
- Will a Cobb AP be able remove the ecuTEK license and flash back to stock?
Any other recommendations?
Thanks.

You can't find an ECU now, if you change it out, it has to be verified by the dealer or you won't pass. I have EcuTEK on my sedan and I put it to stock with stock parts and a stock tune and it passed. Mann Engineering in Santa Clara can remove the EcuTEK. Not sure an AP can remove it, but I think it will flash over it.
