If I smog my car now, will it count for my registration in March?

I'm not looking for a smog hookup, and yes, I have read all of the FAQ's on DMV website, and even tried to navigate through AAA's automated phone service.

This coming march will mark the two year point since I have last smogged my car. Since I am not living at home where all my tools, and OEM parts are, I only have an opportunity to switch back to stock every few months. If I could convert to stock (basically just back to original TBE) during my thanksgiving break, or winter break, it would make this much easier than trying to do this process on a weekend in march. If I get my car smogged before the registration calls for it, will it put it off for another two years, or do I have to have my car smogged within the window of time given on the notice for registration?

Thanks

Smog certificates are good for 90 days. So if you smogged now, you'd only be good up to Feb 2010.

You will get your registration in the mail, with which type of smog place to go to. That is a good indication to go get your smog done. You should expect it in January

Good call. The OP's renewal notice may direct him to a test-only station. So if he got a smog now or at a regular station, it won't count towards his registration renewal.

Can't you just pay your registration early. Like just go to the dmv and do it. It would be valid then?

I know this thread is old, but for the sake of having as much information available as possible I felt I should post this up. I found out that I can not register early *online*. Here's a screen shot from the DMV website:
