The Shop
Has anybody ever been to The Shop in San Bruno right behind Tanforan? From reviews they seem to be a great place for general maintenance. Just wondering if anybody here has been there. I'm thinking about getting my winter tires mounted there and an alignment(stock suspension). At $12 a tire for mount/balancing service, I think that's pretty cheap right? And they have a 10% off coupon from Tirerack as well

Some of the techs there are amateurs and are just friends of the owner, Matthel.
Matthel himself is a competent tech but can be very unprofessional; he'll treat you well if he thinks he can make some gain off of you, but if/when he realizes he's not going to be able to take advantage of you, he just ends up snubbing/ignoring you.
I used to work for Bridgestone and we'd hook him up with fatty discounts on tires and free tire disposal, and he was always pretty pleasant over the phone and in person when we were helping him out. But one day, I called for a quote on some parts for my own car, not even expecting a huge discount or anything but to just comparison shop, and he never got back to me. When I called him back, two times he said to give him more time -- it'd been a month already. Then a few weeks later I stopped by his shop to drop off some tires, he wouldn't even talk to me face-to-face; he sent out one of his techs instead.
The guy's a skilled tech but spineless lowlife shyster when it comes to doing business; don't expect any follow-up from him if you have any issues down the road with your work (which you probably will if he himself doesn't work on your car, which is unlikely unless it's a really big job).

Not sure if you are still looking to get work done, but I have had GREAT service at Hanlon Tire in San Bruno on San Bruno Ave. Really nice people, fast service and the prices for my tires were the same as Tire Rack.
For alignment, I always go to Roger Kraus in Castro Valley, but I know some folks don't like to do that drive. IMHO, it's more than worth it.

I mainly need to get new sets of tires mounted on my 2nd set of wheels and to get an alignment done. I'll prolly go to Roger Kraus in Castro Valley for alignment. But for "The Shop" I think I just might get my mounting/balancing service from them since its only $12 a tire for basic mount/balance or $17/tire for dismount old tire+mount/balance new tire.(I still have a some tread left on the spare set I'm going to mount my winter tires on and save the "old" set of tires).

Where are you located?
I had my car aligned at Milt's in Vallejo. The guys that run the shop do a ton SCCA races and track days with their older beamers. They know a ton about cars and they can do aggressive alignments if thats what you are into. They mount tires, but it isn't necessarily cheap. lol
Good luck.
