SF parking ticket question?

So I got a parking ticket last week for an expired meter. I was just about to pay it online when I noticed that the meter maid entered the incorrect license plate # on the citation. The first number is wrong, they entered a 3 instead of a 5. I went to sfgov services and did a search on my correct license plate # and nothing comes up.

Did I just win the parking ticket lottery or what?

Yup, you just did win the lottery. They take down your make & model & color and Lic. plate, but its all keyed off the plate #.

Congrats.

LUCKY BASTIGE!!! you won't get a ticket. My friend works for DPT and says that happens quite often. They won't be able to match it up. It's happened to me once. I saved the ticket and posted it in my cubicle.

As you already found out, their system doesn't even have you in there. Now if some poor guy matches that license plate...he's SOL.

you should do a search for the plate number that the po-po DID write on the ticket and see if it shows up. If it does....there's no question, your off the hook. go buy a lottery ticket.

does that mean that if they screw up the model year, so that the description on the ticket and plate# dont match, the ticket is void? I hope not because I got a BS ticket but paid it and did traffic school because I didnt want to risk fighting it, but they said I was in an 04, when I have an 02

They'd have to REALLY screw it up, not just miss the model year. Like describe a 1993 Corolla for your 2002 WRX. Not just get the year wrong.

I don't know how it works here in the US, but I was on the receiving end of this back in England.

I got several parking tickets for a city that I had never even visited, so I knew something was wrong. I wrote them a letter saying what my car was (make, type, colour, location) and that there must be some error. They cancelled the tickets without any problem.
