Rubbing rear fenders with 17x8 225/45/17!?!

You're talking about a 20-30lb difference in spring rate at most... It's NOT from being a softer suspension.
Taller tire? sure...
a half degree more positive than another car? sure...
But it being soft or blown suspension is not going to be it. Esp in the rear, where the springs are usually heavily progressive. The differences between 2.5i and WRX would small on stock spring rates. 30lbs, MAYBE 50lbs at most, but since it's usually progressive, it's nearly mute point.

Re-reading your first post, you mentioned your car was lowered, which would help you get fatter tire on there, as it would completely change the geometry and the alignment.

I had 235/50 (from tire/wheel trade with a forester) on stock suspension and it rubbed only on huge dips, I had 225/45 on spec c suspension and it never rubbed either...guess ill just roll the fenders and call it a day
