I have found that the pellet gun method is very efficient, and personally (when time permits) is my favorite method....however, I have 3 cats, that all work together as a team (and 2 of them are very big), and I have seen them not only take care of rodent problems, but they patrol my yard and chase other cats away, I have even seen the oldest (and biggest) cat Pepe, actually chased a couple of dogs out of the yard as well. One time my XGF brought her dog over to my house (1/2 pitbull, 1/2 lab mix), and her dog wandered into my bedroom where Pepe was sleeping on his kitty tower, and when he saw the dog, he LEAPED off the top of the tower, right onto the dogs back, and grabbed on with all fours, hissing and slapping the dog......let me just say, I've never seen a dog run that fast with a CAT in hot pursuit. He's also used this method on my Cousin's dog a few times, and will actually chase him around the yard. Its friggin hilarious.

Talking Rodent #5

Found this sucker this morning. Notice how the trap caught it in the left side. Eyes were open.

man, this trap is cool! doesn't seem to leave a mess (blood)... I bet you could catch more if you have time to go back and reset the trap all the time...

It is awesome. I don't think I've seen any rodent blood yet. That's five uses so far for just under $7.00. Most of the time, they only come out after I go to bed.

I haven't heard any rustling in my attic for the past few days, but if I hear rustling on the fence tops or in the trees, then I know there's a new victim out there...

It's funny... Seeing dead humans is nothing to me, but when I see dead rodents it almost brings a tear to my eye.

I've never killed furry critter before... I always trap them and let them go in a field or something.

Humans on the other hand...

Unfortunately, no kills this morning. I heard at least two rats last night flying through the trees or rustling around the fences, but they avoided the Jaws o' Death. But I know they're on borrowed time...

Rodent #7

So last night I was watching Ultraviolet on DVD. I heard this noise and looked outside. I checked on the rat trap and saw that the trap had caught a big critter. Its head was caught in the trap and it was flailing about for a good 10 seconds or so, its tail flopping around, body gyrating.

This morning I dumped the big critter away. It was easily 1.5 times bigger than the other ones I caught.

I completely agree. I caught the Mother Of All Rodents last night. But I still think there is one more parent out there that helped spawn all these little rats.

I'll set my trusty trap out tonight again, and hopefully I can have some peace for awhile. I noticed this big one I caught was pretty smart and avoided death longer than the previous six.

It's kind of messed up for a rodent parent to send six of its rodent children to "check out" the food trap before it does it itself. Heh.

Should I rename my rodent trap "The Parent Trap?" Hee hee.

Ok i have a rat problem myself and could use some advice.I ve had this little sucker in my house for a couple of weeks now and nothing works. The old school traps he tripped them and stole the peanut butter, bought a tomcat and he just ignored it, so i bought the large sticky traps and put them side by side and he just jumped over them!Only thing i can think of is to lie in wait and snipe him with my BB gun.Any other ideas?

My tomcat trap has a little round bin for bait. I put the peanut butter or jelly in the bin and set the trap. I also set the trap along a wall since rats tend to run along walls due to their bad eyesight. Be patient. Just last night, a rat ate all the dog food bait in the trap around the jelly without triggering the trap. Sometimes this happens. But eventually the rodent gets greedy and triggers the trap.

If the rat keeps coming back to the same area, say the kitchen, you will see rat droppings and/or smell the rat urine. If they are chewing off plastic tops of containers, you will see the shredded tops and evidence the rat has been there. I would place the traps in that area.

If you want to know where the rats are entering your home, you can use a UV flashlight to spot the urine at the outside of your home. That's where they enter. Rats only need a small opening to get in b/c they can compress their bodies to small sizes to squeeze through.

Good luck. I'm hoping to catch #8 tonight. :-)
