Those HIDs price $1000+ each... but there's still 3 grand unaccounted for...

I say keep the bugeye and uber pimp her out. New STi has a nice multi link rear but is bloated (by ~100lbs??) and is still on EJ technology. While the EJ is a great series, it's like 15 or closer to 20 years old!

'08 DGM STi owner chiming in....

I've driven my friend's 2010 wrx, and I can see (yes, pun intended ) the difference between the STi HID's and the WRX projectors(?), at night on not-so-well-lit roads.

If this is going to be a DD and you'll be driving at night regularly, get the non-SE....unless you can get HID's on the SE.

However, I don't know what else accounts for the $5k. I do know that the stock stereo sucks. My '07 Civic Si and my gf's '05 Civic EX both had noticeably better stereo systems.....and we're both non-audiophiles!

I like to keep my car clean and shiny, and I can tell you that DGM is also way more forgiving than any black car. The fender bulges of the GR STi are also easier seen with a shiny DGM compared to OBP.

Just one thing with the GR STi's......ringland failures have popped with stock, stage-1, and even stage-2 folks. Some blame the engine, some blame the tune, some blame both. I've been personally lucky to not have this issue, 22k miles on stock engine, stock tune.

Oh, the interior is so much nicer than the previous impreza's......but it's still nowhere near the level of other 30k cars.

Cliff notes: If you can find an SE with the correct color, and can live without HID's, go with that. Use the money saved to get a clear bra, and other upgrades.....stereo, tires, coilovers, sways, protune, etc etc

Edit: I'm selling my GR after the snowboard season, if for some reason you're considering a used car

No... and I just got off the phone with Steven's Creek. You have a dark gray one arriving Monday. I told whoever I talked to (Mark?) to call me Monday. Who should I be talking to?

I also just found an aspen white in Santa Rosa. ****.

I'll second the white. I've always wanted a white STi, even more so with the new body style!

Yeah Huck White is pretty dope, sort of an ode to your bugeye too! But then again I can see how you'd be interested in changing things up. I do think that with white , you can "almost" put any color, style of wheel and it would look good. Unlike say my PSM bugeye, limited colors work nicely with it (IMO).

That's assuming "changes" would be made in the future.

Huck... what's the story behind your blown engines? What caused em?

And get the new STI. If you track, get the SE.

Why not save yourself even more money and buy a 2010 WRX with 265hp? Its only 30hp short of the STI!! That leaves you lots of extra spending money for upgrades.

+1 to that!

I read in one of the car magazine that stock 09/10 WRX is faster than 2008 STI on track.
