Well its a colaboration car.

The chassis was designed by Porsche, built by Karman-Volkswagon.

Alot of the misc. parts are all VW. But the heart of the car, Motor, trans, axles, suspension, brakes is all Porsche.

It's funny to look at the door glass and see a VW logo. And actually in europe the 914 was sold at VW dealerships, unlike the 911's and 356's which were sold at the Porsche dealerships. But when they expanded the car to the US market they dropped the VW logo and went strictly Porsche to boost company sales. It was sort of the bastard child over the last decade or so, but now a nice 2.0L h4 can go for 20K in a private sale.

Luckily porsche made all of the 914 to be able to use 911 suspension/brakes/steering all the way up till 1985. So you can have the benefits of a completely aluminum front end (suspension/steering wise) and now you can by the adapter kit to use the 21mm Master Cylinder and bolt The Big red Boxter brakes on the car.

Anyway, back to work. got my complete front wheel bearings kit in hand and im gonna do those tonight.

Id advise you to get a better seat sooner matt, it will be much safer than the worn out ones now. You wont slide around as much in an accident.

Other than that, Sweet! Cant wait to check it out in person.

I've having the seats all redone. New foam being put in and the works. It'll still be stock shape, but it'll feel a whole hell of alot better till i can put a sport seat in it.

The 914 was designed by Porsche and originally intended for sales through Volkswagon, but then Porsche decided it would eat into their own sales too much and badged it as a Porsche (in the US at least). Most of the designs for VAG cars up until some time in the 70's was done by Porsche. Also, Karmann is not really an automobile company, they are coach builders, they built some one off Porsches back in the day (911 Research Cabriolet), the Ghia and a few other aircooled, then some h20 cooled as well. I think they may have assembled either Volvos or Fiats too. My Scirocco was built by Karmann, and after wrenching on a Rabbit and my rocco, there are some subtle but noticeable differences in quality; not so much the materials used, but the way things have held up over the years.

Yea, will do. Did front wheel bearings last night, and picked up the last few seals to seal up the cabin.

almost done. Looks like I'll be taking it to LA the end of the month hopefully!
