Another milestone reached in Iraq!
At 9:30 tonight, Iraq takes longer than WW II
August 15, 2006
We're counting from the day Germany declared war on the US (December 11, 1941) to VE day (May 8, 1945). This is 1244 days. The Invasion of Iraq began on March 20, 2003 at 21:34 EST when the US began their first air strike on Baghdad.
On August 15, 2006 21:30 EST the United States will have been at war in Iraq longer than it was at war with Germany in World War II.

The ****ing Socialists on this board poo poo'd my ideas about how we should've been waging the war in Iraq like we did in Europe.
Had we executed the war in Iraq the way we did Europe, we'd been home by now, Iraq would be a contributing member of the world community, etc, etc
You got *****, psoper.

I thought the same thing. Look, it really sucks that it's taken so long and I haven't been a strong supporter of Bush since 2002. But to make this sort of comparison when the American casualty rate of Iraq vs. WWII argument as well as the Saddam death toll of hundreds of thousands vs. Hitler's millions never seems to be substantiated is asinine.
I've agreed with the idea that if we fought Iraq like we did WWII on all fronts (propaganda in the media, pro-war ideology, etc) then we would have been home long ago as well.

The thing is that everywhere you go in Iraq there is a camera that has someone on the other side screaming if anything is done wrong. I do not agree with killing or hurting anyone, but for us to get out of there we need to go in, clean house, and leave. Not just sit around playing tag with these guys.

problem is most of the mainstream media is anit war, peace keepin hippies! so with that in mind there would be NO way a war could be fought like WWII!!! i mean the press would be attackin the US more than the iraqi's....wait that already happens!
damn media should be more grateful and support our troops so we can finish this damn war already!
if the admin was so afraid of the public going in a rage about war tatics they could've done it like WWII. the general public knows nothing about whats really goin on in iraq there just accepting everthing CNN is telling them!

Major difference that no one is considering about the differences between WWII and Iraq.
THERE WAS NO FREE MEDIA IN WWII.
All the media coverage was controlled by the Government. Censorship was MANDATORY, letters from the war zone back to families were controlled, and edited for content.
War was popularized at home through propaganda, advertising, war bonds etc....and it was supported.
Iraq has had the media all over it. De-glamourizing it (as has been the norm since Vietnam)
With this type of over exposure in place...it is impossible to gain the support of the nation in ANY war. American civilians haven't supported any military mobilizations the same since all the coverage in Vietnam.
If media was not allowed the access and free roaming coverage that they are now...things would be considerably different. The public would be spoon fed what the government wanted them to know, as was the way it was handled in WWII.

that is where i was going with my post. the WWII was way way way more crual and savage than the iraq war! and if the media would let the the troops do their job, we'd be out of there by now
