They have done quite a bit of study on this, and yes, lights even in daylight, bring with it a significant increase in visibility to other drivers. Why do you think DLR's were created? Why do you think their are stretches of road in CA and other states that you MUST turn your headlights on when travailing along?

Avis, along with several other car safety groups have released studies dating as far back the early 80's on headlight on safety data. Despite what you might think, it does work, and it does make you safer.

I'll remember that the next time I see someone with there lights on cut me off w/o signaling and then slowing down. But with his lights on at least he's doing it safely.

That works better with a pair of Hella FF1000's mounted to a lightbar. It creates blindness and confusion in the driver in front of you. At least in my personal experience, as did me following him to his home street - which really freaked him out. Of course, I'm bigger than most, and me sitting on someone could wind up being a deadly weapon.

This is again why I love to drive the beast (AKA the 85 4runner), with that bumper I have on there, NO ONE likes to get in my way. The one guy I had cut me off I calmly edged up tell my bumper was about 12" off his car, and he promptly got off the freeway.

and yea, if he had done a brake check I would have hit him being that close...but with the weight and size of the truck and bumper, I would have gone clean thru his car and killed him.

Ok, today....... WTF is going on with semi drivers?
Heading to work on 880 South this morning, there are two semis pacing each other in two lanes?! This was from Automall down to Calaveras/237. And they were NOT in the rightmost lane!

1 - Carpool lane
2 - Fast lane
3 - Semi
4 - Semi

Mother carpet ********!

That is why I carry a 5lb high power rechargable projector lamp in my car. j/k, but I though about carrying it before for this occasion. Seriously though this light gives almost the intensity and lumminosity of one of those helicopter search lights. If someone were to follow me like that I`d shine that bad boy through the back of my windshield.

Also, lane 1 is the fast lane, lane 2 is the lane to the right of that, and so on. Lane numbering and positions start on the left.
ya but i wouldnt be doing 35 on the freeway. i am saying that 55 or 60 is acceptable on the freeway as long as they arent in the fast lane. i am not saying that i am a speed law abiding citizen, but technically no one is supposed to go over 65 becuase that is the maximum speed allowed. it also doesnt say the only speed you can drive on the freeway is 65, it also doesnt say minimum speed 65.

and yes i understand the number one lane is to the left. thats why i said if i was going 55 or 60 in the number one lane i would understand if someone got pissed off but thats why if i do drive that speed its in the slow lane.

you dont get mad at truckers for driving 55 in the slow lane, why would you get mad at you regular joe driving that same speed in that same lane.

and as far as the prius bashing goes,i know a lot of them are drivin by ***** bag hippies, but they have their advantages. i will take a drive with anyone anywhere, we will both drive 75-80mph on the freeway and i guarantee you will get pulled over before i do.

besides i have a sticker on the back of my prius that says "id rather be getting 15mpg in my subaru." thank you very much.
