Quick Question... Why do people go to Ocean Beach?
Ok, I know tons and tons of people that go to Ocean beach during the day (I can understand nights, cuz fires are allowed). But in the day it's usually pretty damn cold, and the water is SUPER dangerous. Why oh why?

Although useless, unless you have an artic grade wetsuit, it is a pretty beach. I proposed to my fiance across from the Beach Chalet on the beach's promenade. Oh and that too, the Beach Chalet itself. Pretty good beer and some of the best garlic fries I've ever had.
I should metion that in 1995 it was San Diego weather all through June, some of July and most of August in SF... weird summer. The water got warm enough that I went swimming at Ocean Beach a few times that summer. It was an El Nino... Probably won't happen again for another 1000 years.

some people surf there, believe it or not. during the winter months, it'll hold triple overhead waves (if you can make the paddle out) and there is never anyone out there. it's also the only real beach anywhere near the heart of San Fransisco.
One of my first memories of San Francisco, circa 91 or 92, is me and 3 buddies trudging across Ocean Beach one afternoon wearing full fur lined hooded parkas in July. But apparently it also has some really great surf.

It's the biggest litter box in California! When I lived on 44th Ave., people would take their dogs, cats and whatever other animals down there to do their thing. Nothing like a little animal waste rolled in sand!
I also remember when a bunch of discarded hypodermic needles washed up on the beach. Talk about culture shock when I moved there from SoCal. All we had to worry about there was toxic waste.
