Anyone know of an alternative in the San Jose area, I'd really rather not go to the dealer (doesnt matter what dealer)

Service opens at 07:30. There are plenty of places to get a code checked though.

Daniel, you can literally go to any kragen/autozone/pepboys and they supposedly pull codes for free with a scanner to. I could be wrong but any good shop should be able to at least pull the code for you for free. Once you have the code just look it up. There are lots of compiled lists of problem codes already online or you can pm because I have an 06 sti service manual with in-depth breakdown of all the codes.

Just got the code pulled for free by a nice guy at Midas since everyone else wanted AT LEAST $85 just for a reading... But he did it for free since he was into subies. YAY for Subaru love.

Anyway, it's a misfire code, P0304 , The guy cleared the code and the car works magically well again. Can someone look into what this code is exactly, what's misfiring and such?

I really think it's due to the battery thing... Its been screwing me for some months now, only I didnt get a CEL till this time.

Thanks guys, all help is appreciated.

ASTC P0304 CYLINDER 4 MISFIRE DETECTED
DTC DETECTING CONDITION:
• Two consecutive driving cycles with fault
• Immediately at fault recognition (A misfire which could damage catalyst occurs.)
• GENERAL DESCRIPTION <Ref. to GD(STI)-97, DTC P0301 CYLINDER 1 MISFIRE DETECTED, Diagnostic
Trouble Code (DTC) Detecting Criteria.>
TROUBLE SYMPTOM:
• Engine stalls.
• Erroneous idling
• Rough driving
That's for the 06 sti engine from my service manual. The diagnosis was a lot of steps involving checking the voltage to the #4 cylinder fuel injector. I also read off of iwsti I think that it could also be spark plug related. Service manual said that after checking injector to check fuel supply, timing sprocket, camshaft position sensor, and last and worst, checking the cylinder itself. I'm no mechanic so don't swear by my words. This can just give you an idea of what the issue might be. Maybe you just need new spark plugs but check in with a real expert. Glad I can help by the way. You do a lot for this community, just glad to be able to give something back.

After the code was cleared the car worked perfectly and no lights after 25 miles

I also remember talking to my service manager about spark plugs and he said to always use the proper NGK plugs and that he has seen other brands of plugs to cause misfires. Don't know how true it is, but if you used a plug other than a Subaru-specific gap NGK, that may be the issue. Once again, i'm no expert on the subject, but he has 25+ years experience and that's what he told me.

Apparently when the code appears, the ecu makes the car act funny, but when it's off, it goes back to normal function. When I had secondary air pump codes on, it put my car into a limp mode, i.e. limited to 5psi of boost and pulled timing.

I would've checked the codes for you in Campbell but didnt read this in time. If the misfire code returns, try switching the coil packs around to see if the code follows. If not it might be an expensive repair..

Is the flashing CC to let you know the problem is uber serious? I thought that it meant that CC has been disabled due to the issue.
