Question for those with children, boys in particular

mostly coz I scratched the **** out of trunk removing my emblems.
I have a 4.5 year old son now, and it was peformed 3 days after he was born (but this is b/c he was in NICU for those days). Generally its performed within 24-48 hrs of birth.
I would not wait the 2 weeks.....AND ITS EFFING BRUTUAL TO WATCH (not like sickening, just very barbaric and sad to see your child whail in pain) but I still believe it should be done. Besides who remembers that being done to themselves...........NOBODY

Our son got the C 2 days after birth.
WE WERE TORN ABOUT IT TOO and eventually just decided to go for it because supposedly there is a lower risk of cancer (from dr friends) of the urethra or something; and it's just easier to clean.
IF YOU THINK IT LOOKS MEDIEVAL then you clearly have never looked at any modern surgical instruments. This is the stupidest argument against circumcision I've ever heard. Just go with your GF to the gyn some time when she gets strapped into the stirrups and spread with a speculum sometime.
AS FOR THE PAIN... didn't the dr's use local anesthetics? My boy squirmed because he was being strapped down and someone was forcefully spreading his legs and messing with his junk. Once the anesthetics were applied, he didn't even know the cutting was taking place. I made sure to be a witness... just so I could see what he went through; or even put a stop to it if I change my mind last minute. It was no more barbaric that drawing blood samples.
AS FOR WAITING DAYS you (OP) should get 2nd and 3rd opinions. I've known friends who returned to the hospital on day 4-5 after birth to have it done, and experience was similar to my son's.
AS FOR EFFECT ON SEX I researched and could not find any reliable information. There are many in both camps.
AS FOR CLEANING, once it heals (within a week or so) cleaning my son is clearly easier than if he wasn't... and unless you've taking care of babies, you don't know what a squirming baby is like.
LIKE WISDOM TEETH AND YOUR APENDIX. To me, this is the same category. Not always necessary, but sometimes needed. Like wisdom teeth, it may be preventative. and IMHO there is no good car analogy.

When/if we have a boy we plan on doing it.
Megan said that at Sutter it's common practice to do it 7 days after birth now.
And like the man said... how many of us remember it. My junk has been a mushroom as long as I can remember and I like it that way.
Huck... I feel sorry for you dude. 16... that's friggin brutal.

My wife is a medical assistant with plans on getting her RN and she told me to quote you because you were right on all accounts. She's actually assisted in a few of these.
On top of that her brother was not trimmed... is not... and he has had issues over the years with cleanliness with it. We can make sure our kids take are clean when they're young and teach them what to do but how many of us brushed our teeth twice a day and flossed daily when we were teens...
