I think doing it is personal preference, religion, or sanitation as some say (I have no idea).

For me, we're jewish...its standard in our culture to do this; sh*t didn't we invent it

although I did NOT do it for religious reasons...we had other family members like threatening us that we BETTER NOT do this or that, I said f them and did what I felt was proper for us at the time.

Agreed its a effed up process but I don't regret putting him through it.....to each's own if they choose to or not to. And sure you can say the kid doesn't have a voice, blah blah blah. That's why us as parents are the real teachers

Why would you want your son to sport a turtleneck?

my son was about a week old when it was done. when the doctor told us to leave the room, me and my fiance actually left the office, i didnt want to hear him screaming, i wouldve ran in there and punched the doctor for torturing my son!!! anyways best of luck to you and your baby, and do leave the office when it is being done. my fiance still cried the whole time we were gone.. just know that the area is numbed before the procedure is done, well my doctor did that anyway.. the biggest reason the baby cries is because they are strapped down, and they do not like that. good luck. he will be ok!

sucks that there's either no availability right away, or it could be some delivery rooms don't opt to offer it (and let the child's pediatrician do the procedure).

2 weeks isn't that bad, as others have said, he won't remember it. just give him extra love and talk to him a lot that night. i think baby tylenol if appropriate (ask your doc!).

best of luck, whichever way you go!

It was the way he came from the factory.
I guess it's like shaving off the OE emblems from your trunk.

If I had a boy and we decided to have him circumcised, I would want this guy to do it.

Nope, more like your parents removing your emblems from your trunk.

Our son got the C 2 days after birth.

WE WERE TORN ABOUT IT TOO and eventually just decided to go for it because supposedly there is a lower risk of cancer (from dr friends) of the urethra or something; and it's just easier to clean.

IF YOU THINK IT LOOKS MEDIEVAL then you clearly have never looked at any modern surgical instruments. This is the stupidest argument against circumcision I've ever heard. Just go with your GF to the gyn some time when she gets strapped into the stirrups and gets her vag spread with a speculum sometime.

AS FOR THE PAIN... didn't the dr's use local anesthetics? My boy squirmed because he was being strapped down and someone was forcefully spreading his legs and messing with his junk. Once the anesthetics were applied, he didn't even know the cutting was taking place. I made sure to be a witness... just so I could see what he went through; or even put a stop to it if I change my mind last minute. It was no more barbaric that drawing blood samples.

AS FOR WAITING DAYS you (OP) should get 2nd and 3rd opinions. I've known friends who returned to the hospital on day 4-5 after birth to have it done, and experience was similar to my son's.

AS FOR EFFECT ON SEX I researched and could not find any reliable information. There are many in both camps.

AS FOR CLEANING, once it heals (within a week or so) cleaning my son is clearly easier than if he wasn't... and unless you've taking care of babies, you don't know what a squirming baby is like.

LIKE WISDOM TEETH AND YOUR APENDIX. To me, this is the same category. Not always necessary, but sometimes needed. Like wisdom teeth, it may be preventative. and IMHO there is no good car analogy.

We didn't do it, my son turned 2 in december. We didn't want to put him though it despite
him not remembering it. Why put him through that experience, right after a traumatic
experience of leaving the womb for a purely cosmetic reason? As long as it is kept clean
it is all good. The one concern was his **** looking different, but apparantly most boys these days aren't circumsized so he will probably be in the majority when they are
whipping them out in the locker room
