Arrow Question to new parents: Circumcision...

Expecting a baby boy this February and I'm in a conundrum on whether or not to circumcise. I was born in the eighties, and was circumcised (along with ~ 80% of other boys at the time) but now, circumcision rates have been steadily declining, especially in CA where it hovers ~ 25%.

Aside from cultural/social reasons, I'm having a hard time rationalizing this surgery. I've read all the medical reports about UTI, STD and cleanliness but it just doesn't seem all that beneficial.

Any new parents out there to chime in?

Not a new parent, but will say that God made us this way, why edit it?

So lowering your child's risk of contracting an infection or disease isn't beneficial?

I'm sorry but really REALLY low chances of infection/disease... honestly you'd have to bone a couple times or something + play a sport/activity all while not showering for a week straight, and fyi I'm speaking first hand. My parents are both MD's and didnt bother with me or my brother lol..

Up to you obviously, I dont think you have anything to worry about and I have heard that CA statistic, imo I always like to think of myself in comparison to the sculptures of greek gods sorry if that was too much info

Snipping is dumb. Let the kid keep his ant eater. He's not going to get the clap or grow aids cheese inside of it. It's a very outdated and ineffective tradition.

The risks seem negligible. UTI only affect ~ 1% of newborns and STD contraction is more of a behavioral risk (being circumcised is not a replacement for practicing safe sex).

Teach your kid to wash it.

We just went through this 4 months ago. We were on the fence too, and the question that helped us make a decision was "Well is the dad circumcised?" The thought being protecting your son from feeling "different" not like his daddy. Honestly I think there is no "real" health risks either way. It becomes a parental choice.

Why don't you ask people if they are happy with their own parents choice?

My dad personally mentioned thinking it was cruel when I was a child even though they did it, but he felt better now that I'm grown up and I told him I was thankful they made the choice to snip it.

I like the way my snipped tip looks. As do all the women who've played with it.

This, I think either way, the kid is gonna grow up fine with it (hopefully). I don't recall anyone going "I WISH MY PARENTS CIRCUMCISED ME!", or vice versa
