So the girlfriend used the netflix streaming disc all day yesterday with no issues, haven't tried a Blu-ray tho....

If you have issues such as the ones mentioned, you should check your tv for a USB slot or an sd card slot. If you have either, your manufacturer can send you an update for our tv. Chances are you are not the only person to ever experience the issues.

^I did that actually, but the USB drive I had wasnt compatible I guess. I'm going to buy one on the "compatibilty" list and update it.

Slightly off topic, but does any else's PS3 with HDMI cables hooked up occasionally make the TV speakers emit a high pitched crackle noise?

^ I don't have a PS3 but crackling with HDMI tends to be the audio decoder (in the TV, in this case) switching between decoding audio formats. For example this could be between PCM (stereo) and Dolby Digital.

When does the crackling happen?

It usually happens when I'm playing a game on the PS3. The strange thing is, I also have an Xbox 360 connected to the other HDMI port on the TV and I never hear any audio crackling with the Xbox.
