PS3 Turns My TV off....

Hoping to get a local solution/help/fix to this.....

I've had the PS3 for a couple years with zero issues.

It's been hooked up to HDMI the whole time with zero issues.

All updates have been done to the firmware with zero issues.

....the past couple months though, there have been a couple times when I turn on the PS3 it turns the TV off (fairly new 46" Sony Z-series 5100). The "HD SIgnal" light flickers and the TV powers off, then back on, powers back off, back on....etc.....

At first I thought it may have been the TV getting hot as the first time it happened was during the few 100 degree days we had and the TV had been on for a while, but tonight it did the same thing when I first turned on the TV and PS3, so no heat issue....

...99.9% sure its NOT the TV as the HD cable works flawlessly....

Any ideas? This blows.

You could always come over and hook it up to my tv... and leave it.

There is a setting with HDMI that enables the PS3 to turn off your TV

Hmmm.....Interesting...

It does it on it's own though, without touching the controller and it hasn't done this until recently with no recent settings change.

i think it might be the active HDMI that is doing that. if my tv(sony xbr4) is off my ps3 can turn my tv on, but it seems like it might be messing up on yours.

^No idea there was "active HDMI" but that would make sense, it only happens when a movie plays, not when the home screen is up or when the TV home screen is up. I'll look through the settings and hopefully changing some will fix it, if its not f'd up somehow...

try using the standard rca cables and holding the power down on your ps3 until it reboots in standard def. then reboot again, then set it back up for hdmi and plug in the cables. At least thats what I would try.

As mentioned, turn off the HDMI control option on your PS3 as well as your TV. It should be in the settings/setup menu for both. On Sony TVs, it's call Bravia Sync. My Panasonic plasma has the same feature and it's great! When both TV and PS3 are off, turning on the PS3 will also turn on the TV and set it to display the PS3. When PS3 is on the home screen, turning off the TV will also turn off the PS3.

So, turned off all hdmi control through my tv even tho the tv was not sync'd with the PS3. I'll see if it works when I get home from work to tonight.
