Pet Friendly Apartments in the East Bay

My lease is going to be over in within the next few months and I wanted to see what options are available for apartments in the East Bay. My issue though is that I have a dog and a cat, so I need a place that accepts both (dogs 50 lbs and under as he is only about 40-45 lbs). I may end up renewing the lease at my current place as it is a gated community and it looks like they have dropped the rates based on what I saw in the office today (new rates for 2x2 looks to be $1515/month +$35/month for pets). I am open to moving though as I have an older lady living upstairs from me that has already complained about noise and the management there just doesn't seem very willing to work with me any longer. My current place has a washer/dryer in the unit and an enclosed patio area and I would like to have both if I do move somewhere else. I'd also like to make sure it is a safe neighborhood.

I would like to pretty much stay within this range as I like the area and would like to remain decently close to work (in Fremont).

Farthest South - Milpitas
Farthest North - San Ramon / Danville
Farthest East - Livermore
Farthest West - I'd like to remain along 880 and not cross any bridges

I have checked online and found this website, but I think there are probably other places that accept animals that are not listed on this website:
http://www.peoplewithpets.com/

I'm also going down the list of places on www.rent.com.

So does anyone have any recommendations as to places to check out or places to avoid that have reasonable rents?

Pick up an Apartment Finder Digest at any super market. They are free and list pet friendly apartments for rent.

Cool, I'll try and find an Apartment Finder Digest and check out Craigslist as well. Those both sound like good ideas to mix in with my search.

I like having the washer & dryer in the unit as it makes it very convenient. It's not completely necessary, but if I can get an apartment with one it would be preferred.

However, I definitely want an enclosed patio at a minimum as I want to make sure my dog has a place to walk outside and go to the bathroom when he needs to.

Currently with living with a roommate and all the bills added up it works out to roughly $1165/month. Depending on if I can find something comparable I'd consider moving. I'd like to find something around the same range (or cheaper if possible). It is a lot easier to find a good spot when you don't also have the animals to think about as well.

Thanks for the help so far everyone.

I'll throw in my $0.02

I've found that you're more likely to find a place which accepts pets if it's privately owned. It's a lot harder to find a apartment complex owned by a company which accepts pets. I know they're out there, but they're very few.

That being said, I've found more places on craigslist that accepts pets since most private owners don't put ads in the magazines by the front door of the supermarket.

I live in Archstone Walnut Creek and they seem pretty good about pets. Rent is in your range, pets are $50 a month I believe, and most units have washer/dryers. They do make you live on the bottom floor if you have dogs, however, as the first floor apartments have wood laminate rather than carpet.

I've lived here for about two and half months and like it well enough. There is also Archstone Walnut Creek Station and Archstone Walnut Ridge in the area, but I can't remember if they accept dogs or not.

good luck in finding a place! look thru craigslist and just click the pets option and it will filter it thru, and i'm sure you won't have too much trouble finding a place for that price.

Watch out on craigslist, tons of scams there.
