I also have a D70 and am probably going to get a remote and 50mm/1.4 lens soon. Probably won't use the remote too much, but enough that it will be worth the $20.

I agree with View Askew it all depends on what you are going to use the lens for
- the D-70 18-70 is a great kit lens, I also have a couple of nice, fast Nikkor lenses and I am glad that I spent the extra $ on them they are awesome. I also have a couple of cheapo lenses that I travel with as well.
If you are looking for a cheap lens that is decent in quality and build look at the Tokina lenses my brother-in-law picked on up off ebay cheap and it feels solid and is fast (f2.8)

(these were taken mostly with a Nikkor 70-200 f2.8) probably the best lens I have for action shots. as well as the 18-70 lens mentioned

But remember people take good pictures not expensive equipment.
