Pentagon backpedals on pay cut for troops in Iraq

This is one of the most outrageous storylines I've read in quite a while. The top brass were considering eliminating the imminent-danger pay and family separation allowance for troops serving in Iraq. They've now reconsidered as the political fallout would cost them more than retaining the pay level for the troops.

What did they think this would do for morale? These soldiers are sacrificing an awful lot to secure an unstable Iraq. The shooting has not stopped - I wish people would refrain from saying, 'the war is over', because that country is still a very dangerous place to be.
