72% of US troops want out of iraq

http://www.zogby.com/news/ReadNews.dbm?ID=1075

didnt think it was that high..

# Le Moyne College/Zogby Poll shows just one in five troops want to heed Bush call to stay “as long as they are needed”
# While 58% say mission is clear, 42% say U.S. role is hazy
# Plurality believes Iraqi insurgents are mostly homegrown
# Almost 90% think war is retaliation for Saddam’s role in 9/11, most don’t blame Iraqi public for insurgent attacks
# Majority of troops oppose use of harsh prisoner interrogation
# Plurality of troops pleased with their armor and equipment

Wow are they that dumb, or are they being spoonfed this info to "motivate"

There's no way they care about Saddam. Sure, they liked what he offered and may be upset by the fact the Shiites are now on a level playing field, but the bottom line is they would have been happy with the Easter Bunny if he gave them as much favoritism as Saddam. Again, I think that some of the Sunni aggression may be because they are no longer in the spotlight of favoritism. I just don't see how attacking mosques and large crowds consisting of a mix bag of Iraqis, Iraqi forces, and sparse American forces is an worthwhile answer? If they were truly upset about us getting rid of Saddam then why not strictly retaliate against only the Americans that got rid of him?

Besides, why be upset that Shiites are now on the same level of equality as you? Shouldn't it be business as usual for Sunnis? The answer is they hate Shiites and Kurds and few are willing to die for that cause.

I think its no-brainer that a lot of solider want out of Iraq. As for them being unsure of their role, that's entirely Rumsfelds fault. I've always thought Rumsfeld was an ineffective Sec of Defense and a lot of prior/active service members do as well. Our mission is hazy when compared to wars past. it's that simple. One of the major keys to soldier morale is knowing why the **** you're there. It's one of the major reasons why Desert Storm & WWII were so successful.

So Salty how do you feel now about Bush getting us into this situation? Would you still have voted for him in the first election? I guess that goes for all Republicans on this board.

Still would have voted for Bush over Kerry or Gore, but would have preferred actual CONSERVATIVE. I think he should be impeached for his irrisponsible immigration policy (mexico in particular) and lack of a secure Southern border.

I didn't vote for Bush the first time because the Navy never mailed my entire crews absentee ballots. I still would've voted for him both times, because in both elections I wasn't so much voting for Bush as against the Democratic candidate. But the shame that is the DNC is another thread topic.

I agree with Hella (whoa). Though I am on the other side of the fence, (Kerry > Bush) , we have had innefective canidates for president. If a real conservative (fiscal) came up, I would probably vote for him. Bush however, is some sort of socialist-says hes capitalist-religous wackjob and far from true conservatism.

I picture it as a diamond...the left is liberl, the right conservative...the top smart and the bottom dumb...most people are on the lines between smart and liberal or smart and conservative...this admin is right at the 'stupid' apex, neither liberal or conservative...just stupid.

I never felt good about any of the candidates so I never voted this time. There I said it... I was forced to vote for Bush the 1st time and probably wouldn't have voted otherwise as I was in training.

For all those that say they would have voted for him again vs Gore. Why? You do realise that it would be very likely that we wouldn't be in Iraq right now had Gore been President. I'm sorry but I still don't understand how you could vote again for someone that has done what he has to this country. Iraq is the major one but a lot of other negatives have followed. I guess what I'm trying to ask/say is what would it take for you to change your mind that you voted for the right person?

-P.S. This is in NO way a attack on you guys beliefes. I just want to try and see your point of view on this. I thank all of you that answered in a grown up manner. Even Hella.

i talked to my buddy in iraq and kind kicked around the bush in asking him what he felt about whats happening over there and he told me

"as much as it sucks that were here, leaving wouldnt help anything. we have to be here till we are no longer needed."

dont get me wrong he long awaits to party it up with all of us back home but to me it sounds like he and his swad feel "needed" in the region.

i have so much respect for him and i only pray that his time spent in that **** hole isnt for nothing... that goes with everyone thats given more then we could ever understand to serve our flag.

"Serve our flag." Is that what it this is called?

Yeah.....ok. This pissing contest in Iraq is not going to get better anytime soon, it will continue to cost American lives, and tax payer dollars, and the men and women there are right.....we are there....pulling out is the wrong thing to do, because of all the damage we have caused and how unstable the country is.

If we pulled out we'd be no better than France in Vietnam...but then again...who really thinks about France when you mention Vietnam?

Amazing that his popularity is in the low 30% arena......

Clinton gets a Bl0w Job and everyone screamed to impeach him.....what's a little oral sex compared to the fnck that Bush is giving the Military and the image of this nation?

He has lied, cheated and stole to get where he is.....what has America gotten for it?

BTW, I'm active duty Navy. Things are so bad for the Army that now they are sending in Navy personnel, with minimal training I might add, to bolster the Armies forces in the region. All this so they can hope to rotate a military force out so they can get some rest. But as soon as they get home and any national emergency occurs....they get pulled for clean up duty.

Our Military is over extended and burnt out from this. Continuing budget cuts, and manning drawdowns also play a huge part in how tired our forces are. This is a very dangerous game. Next year the lovely republicans are giving the Military the weakest payraise in over 13 years.....is this fair with all that the military is being called on to do?

2 years left of Bush....how much more damage can he cause?

I'd like to know, what if Iraq never happened? Would those who hate Bush, because he's Bush, still be whining about something in Afghanistan, or Gitmo? What if Saddam wasn't dealt with right away? Would his idiotic rhetoric have eventually landed him in the same place he is? Who knows.

Nobody does, the Bushies don't and the *******s who just want to see the US lose in order to say "I told you so" to to Bush, don't either.

But yes, I would still vote for him, look at your choices, you have Kerry who still has no position an anything and Gore who just wants to run around and badmouth his country.
