PC Help
All of a sudden, starting today, my IE is freezing up in Win XP Pro.
I cannot open anything "in a new window".
I am on ATTBi and another friend of mine reported the same problem.
Any clues what that might be?

Well, I am not sure what you have loaded on your PC. Here is a link for IE6 sp1 which should clear up any problems you are having.
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/...p1/default.asp
I reccommend downloading "spybot" which is available here:
http://beam.to/spybotsd
this is quite the handly little application that can tell you exactly what kind of spywear could be installed on your system.
When is the last time you updated your virus protection and did a complete scan?
Also, if you run the configuration tool, "msconfig" from the start/run command line, you can see what kinda stuff is being loaded when you start your PC.
Hope that helps!

Alex,
If you have Norton, Symantec, PC Cillin, or some other BS anti-virus SW, let me know.
I have a friend who works at a company that makes high quality corporate anti-virus SW. It works better than anything else, updates and scans transparently, and is free to you.
Do you have XP setup to update automatically?

I have the same problem, I have 2 computers (1 @ work, 1 @ home) Both are running XP, it doesn't do it at home but it does it all the time at work, and when I click a link through AIM, my AIM windows freezes up for a sec and it does not open the link...
a recent microsoft patch that was deemed as CRITICAL has cause
some machines to operate at a very slow rate.
for those using the AUTOMATIC UPGRADE feature, this should have downloaded and
installed this patch. for you people running windows XP HOME i believe
it affects that version also.
the patch is WINDOWS XP HOTFIX (SP2) Q811493. to see if your machine
does have this:
START button -> CONTROL PANEL -> ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS.
wait a few moments and it will list all the applications installed on
your machine. scroll down to the bottom and see if that entry is there.
NOW, i will say that i have the Q811493 and i havent noticed any
slowness in my machine.
so if you have noticed some sluggishness in your machine, you can safely
UNINSTALL that entry and your machine SHOULD return to it's normal speed.

One more good practice, is to regularily update your windows operating system.....go to windows update (should be in your start button, OR go into IE and click "tools > windows update." This will keep your operating system up to date with the latest bug fixes, security patches, MS application service packs, and updated hardware drivers.
If you have not updated your windows in awhile...you may have to repeat this a few times to get all of the updates, as well as restart your computer a few times after certain updates are installed. But it will tell you what to do.
here's the link to Windows Update:
then click "scan for updates" (hope you have a high speed connection)

If you are still having an issue...
Please post a screen shot of the error or a browser window...
Do you have hotbar or Yahoo! toolbar installed?
Anything like taht will screw up your browser...
