We need to get up to the snow soon. But time and money both suck right now.

btw, I am not sure about passort, but V1 you can send it back for upgrade in the future. i got mine for $400 5 years ago and the upgrade is only $75 for the POP thing. Do we even use POP in the bay? If not, I might not even do it...

I have owned nothing but Escort since the 1st one offered in 'Car and Driver' with never a failure, warranty claim or breakdown. I still use a second gen Passport that is at least 15 years old and has more then 500,000 miles under it's belt!
I used it while working as a 'location scout' for film when I was averaging 50K - 70K miles a year. How many tickets did it save me from??? Cannot even begin to count them. I have always average one point on my record at any given 3 year period and I drive VERY quickly ALL the time outside 'city' posted limits...
It is just a tool, just like your mirror and common sense. Don't fly over a crest, don't scream around a corner you cannot see all the way through (is the Po Po sitting there?). Count on NO radar on the uphill side of an interstate/highway... surely one sitting at the BOTTOM of the downhill grade. Keep your lane changes to a minimum, DON'T announce your lane changes with signals (flares for them to see you). Ease into traffic clumps and ease out of same, till you get open road and then stand on 'er again. EVERY alarm from your Escort or V1 means 'brakes on' (even for the falses).
If you get popped after doing all this ~ well simply put ~ you loose. Be polite, have NO attitude, go 'belly up' without lies or excuses and you got a 50/50 chance for a warning, or a "please slow it down", as he hands your license and reg back to you.
Yes, I have 3 State Troopers in my family... but I never show the 'please extend professional courtesy' cards ever if I am pulled over. There are WAY more times I deserved to be pulled over and wasn't, then times I did get popped for playing the odds and loosing!
I have been pulled for 100 mph+ six times in 34 years of driving. Three of them I got a verbal 'warning' and was allowed to motored on. One I was written up for 85 mph, the other two for 75 mph + (and those two I went to traffic school for).
Don't drive like an idiot... because speed alone does not kill.
