I've never had a Passport, so I have no idea how well it works. From the reviews, it can't be bad.

However, I went with the V1...for the arrows. I find them very useful in telling me if I've passed the danger or if it's coming from behind me. I don't use the detector as often as I should but I will NOT drive the 5 to/from SoCal without my radar detector. As generic as it sounds, it really has paid for itself from the tickets I *might have* gotten if I didn't have a radar detector.

Anyway, the point is....if you're going to spend the money, just pay a little more for the very useful arrows.

V1 ftw, i also have to say you kind of learn the tones of the V1 and really know what is cop or foe after a while.

and normally since police do not travel in pairs, i experienced two bogeys one time and i didnt think it was possible, but when i came up to it, it was one highway patrol car and a motorcyle both with their radars on.

 

My V1 has already paid for itself at least half a dozen times.

 

I would get one if I drive freeway a lot...too bad I'm usually doing city

 

Get the V1 with built-in Laser and Dual-POP protection, there is no substitute!

 

It saved me a ticket in SF once too. :P

 

why bother getting a detector when it doesn't really work against instant on lidar...it would be too late to do anything about it once a cop gets u with it

 

far as I know lidar is rarely used as the only ones that can really use it are motorcycle cops...and when they set up motorcycle cops they usually have a standard CHP nearby.

MOST radar used is detectable by the V1, passport, etc.

 

didn't you guys see the ABC7 news coverage on the use of LIDAR in the bay area? they had a cop stand on an overpass using the LIDAR and 3-4 CHP cars on the freeway. the LIDAR cop would relay the vehicle description and their current speed to the CHP waiting below. it's efficient, to say the least...

 

they use that tactic on no tolerance days and those are usually reported in the papers or online. I personally haven't come across them doing that and I drive A LOT.

but it wouldn't surprise me. Police aren't to protect and serve anymore. They're fundraisers for the state....at least the chp is. My brother in law (police) calls them AAA with badges...I agree. We need less CHP and more police but it's the other way around. They are hireing chp like crazy right now.

 

Once again, a Radar detector is not a license to speed. If you treat it as such, you will get a ticket.

It's really just a deterant and a helper for roads like I5, highway 4 and stuff like that. Basically......the more you speed the more likely you'll get caught. I really just want it to help me with times like this one and the last one where I DEFINATELY would not have gotten tickets had I had one.

I don't think I'll change my driving style at all...if anything I'll slow down a bit. haa.
