It doesn't with CD-RW discs?! Screw that. I was thinking about substituting it temporarily to give it a test run, but if that's true, forget it.
Can I get some confirmations that the stock WRX deck refuses to play CD-RW discs?

Never tried a cd-rw in it, but it definitely plays cd-r.
ps - why would you use a cd-rw to burn music on?
edit - oh yeah opinions lol. It works fine for me. After all, it is a car, and you'll never have a great audio experience in it anyway. My stereo is stock with the exception of a Novone LOC, and 10" Polk ex Sub in the trunk.
The main thing I like about it is not having to worry about anyone wanting to steal it.

Its crap. I bought this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=18798
for 1/2 of the price of which I sold my stock stereo and I'm much happer.
Range is better. Over all sound quality is better. Bass comes through nicer. All this even on stock speakers... but I do want some new speakers as I've stretched (or worse) all of them with the stock stereo with open windows on the freeway

Has anyone tried one of these slim design sub units that fit under a seat like the stock sub? That seems the way to go to deter theft, and I know Infinity makes a sub/amp combo.

My CD player hasn't worked since I followed psoper up and over a hill on a 23 mile long gravel road. I've just been too lazy to drop my car off to be repaired. It hasn't been so bad though, I broke out a crate of old mix tapes from '91+. Good times.

Well, I already have the Clarion DRX9575Rz. Originally cost me $700.00 waaay back in the days.
I liked the stock WRX deck because it has both casette and cd player in a flush-mount.
Here's a pic:

Really? I've been around high end car audio for about 10 years and have heard some systems in vehicles that blow away high end home audio. Just don't go to your local chain electronics store looking for it. But in all fairness, this is opinion, not scientifical.
