How can you say this? The cops had no info on the driver or possible passenger(s) in the vehicle.

Post Let's do some math...

This girl is traveling @ ~ 86MPH when clocked at first by the Patrolman.

That's almost 1.5 miles per minute.

Just out of curiosity, how many exits are there per mile?

So everyone expecting spike strips, umm... how are you going to predict if she's going to get off the highway? Have you ever hit a spike strip @ ~100 mph?? What happens when one tire (left or right) goes flat faster than the other? Oh, that's right, you would induce massive yaw, which would unpredictably take control of the cars' steering, and probably flip that Nissan over and over and ...

In the middle of the highway.

Now you're risking other motorists, because the spike strip did its job. Spike strips are designed to deflate the tire somewhat slowly, but at the rate of speed, and the condition (heat) of those tires, you don't think that they might deflate a little too quickly?

Oh, and the helicopter thing? Well, unless you're in Los Angeles (which has a force of at least 6 helicopters), you don't tend to have those available too quickly.

I'm sure it could have been handled differently, but obviously the girl had no respect for the law. Yes, I've been stopped for 95 MPH, and I chose NOT to run, but to take the ticket that was issued.

The only one I feel bad for is the passenger, although he might have been an influence on her decision to run for it.

Georgia state trooper takes over his lead in his pursuit, 15sec after passing a couple of vehicles when traffic clears and the road opens up the trooper pulls up beside her to use the pit maneuver to get her to stop the Nissan passfinder skids of the road hitting a tree killing the driver and passenger instantly
15sec!!!! thats it he just gets on the highway after it gets in his area and he desides to just pit!!!!

im sorry but his passenger could have been your daughter son or brother that was kidnapped... and to me it sounds like this cop is just another *******

And if this young woman (who obviously didn't know how to drive) hadn't been STUPID enough to run, this would be a moot point. I have to wonder if you aren't an ACLU member or something...

The troopers did what they were supposed to do. They did NOT carelessly use that maneuver, since the roadway was clear, the PIT was from the right side of the car, to take the car OFF the road, and if not successful, at least it would make her slow down, and possibly decide that it wasn't worth her running.

The threat to the troopers? Gee, does that mean that anyone who carelessly endangers the public should be allowed to do so without consequence? That means if I run from a cop @ stupid speeds, I should be allowed to get away. Might be some rice boys' dream, but in reality, it would only teach the general public that they are able to disregard the cops. Gee, no threat??

Mexicanpizza we usually agree 100% on this kind of **** but at this point I think its an abuse of power. The state is pushing it by being able to take the life of individuals who have committed murder, etc, but taking the life of speeders? Of course they had a chance to slow down but that doesnt mean they should die. Let the punishment fit the crime please.

murder

That cop should be tried for murder...

A complete lack of reason. Even the news reporter said that the car was on an open highway. There was nobody around to hurt and plenty of time to coordinate with outside law enforcement. They ran a check on the plate and it was evident that the occupants probably wern't serious or dangerous criminals. Just another example of a back woods country F*ck cop killing someone (in this case a young girl and her passenger) that didn't desrve to die. Yeah, they were doing 100mph (what,..you never did 100mph) like that's a serious enough crime to deserve death.

Bottom line, they should have swallowed their pride and called off the chase. That way a scared little girl and her friend wouldn't have been killed.

I see SUV's driving over 80 all the time, sometimes I see them topping "the ton". It definitely scares me, especially when their running on visually underinflated tires. But it scares me more that people are defending a cop who could have caused the SUV to roll over in front of traffic that was 15 seconds behind.
How long do you think it takes those big rigs to stop from 70 mph?

That was an unacceptable maneuvar. They should have worked to clear the freeway ahead so she could speed through without hitting people and run out of gas. If she exits the freeway, that car isn't going to be getting much speed on city streets and at that point it's MUCH safer to try pitting.

I'm gonna have to agree w/ the ppl saying it was an unacceptable manuever. There were so many things they could've done instead, they had no idea who was in the car, or anything. If they'd known they were criminals or something I'd be all for the cops, but they had no idea. I think cops need to be taken more seriously and penalties for trying to flee should be bigger, but killing is waaaaaaaay overkill. What about the whole penalty to match the crime thing? I think there are defininetly times to do what he did, and I think some cops need to be more like him, but they need to try other **** first.
