and k, if you're going to tahoe more than a couple times, you should get mud+snow (m+s) tires.
whatever you do, DO NOT PUT A LUXURY TIRE ON YOUR SCOOBY!!!
your car was made to handle like a sports car, not a luxury car, and putting those tires on a subaru would make baby jesus cry.
good luck and let us know how it comes out.

Ya...I'm so torn
I'm leaning toward the downshifts again because I think the Tarmacs are just too busy. I don't like all those spokes.
I asked Subydude what kind of brakes I can fit with the Downshifts (thinkin about the future) and he said everything except the brembo brakes...I don't know when/if I would ever put those on my car so I'm thinking downshifts
as far as tires...I've got a guy in the city who has the S03s in stock and will put everything together for me tomorrow if I want.
only problem is he's charging about 190 a tire....I know I can gettem cheaper online but with shipping and wait time, it all pretty much evens out. It'd be cool to have my stuff all set for this weekend and it's like 50 bucks more.
alternatively...a friend of mine at work is trying to steer me toward the Yokohama AVS ES100. They run about 130 a tire but I don't know much aboutem.
So right now it looks like it's the Downshifts in steel grey (don't want any other color rim) and the S03s Gonna cost me about 1300 altogether
someone wanna talk me out of it?
I haven't paid or commited to anything yet, but it's all ready to go whenvever I want!

Wow...I just read about the Sumitomo HTR+ in another thread here and they seem like an awesome buy. 86 bucks a tire!
wow...they are all season, Ultra-high performace tires

anyone have any experience with these?
I'm sure they're not the best racing tires yada yada yada...but I don't do that. I want a nice all-around tire. Watcha think? I'd be willing to wait for that HUGE price difference
Guess I should mention that I may take a few trips to Tahoe this winter.....but I also drive to L.A. , AZ and Vegas occasionally. My car goes a long way

Mud and Snow, basically it means that they are rated to perform in adverse weather conditions. Like if it were snowing in tahoe and you have M&S tires w/ out AWD you wont have to put chains on.

3 stages regarding chains in the snow, at least for tahoe.
If it's stage 1, then any car with M+S tires can go without chains.
Stage 2, then AWD + M+S tires can go without chains. Stage 3, chains are definitely required. But I doubt we'll ever see a stage 3 here in norcal, reno, tahoe area though.
