<---------------- Pro Oil Monkey.

That may very well have been the problem. I always pre-fill my oil filter, and rub a little oil on the o-ring, but lord knows the oil shop (oil can henry's) most likely doesn't. Just goes to show, if you don't have time to do your own change, MAKE time.

it works if its stuck and obvously you dont need to reuse that one.
I've had to do this once too. It works but a bit messy.

I use one of those black clamp style wrenches with teeth on the ends. Kinda looks like a set of really big pliers.

in the past, I have resorted to using large channel-lock pliers or the oil filter wrench pliers described above.

I recommend going to a snap-on or matco tool salesperson (easier yet sears/craftsman might have one), and buying a universal filter removal tool, which fits at the end of a socket wrench or extension, and has two or three claws, is spring-loaded, and self-expands to fit around most oil filters.

ehh...

Just get that thing that 02blackwrx posted a picture of. it should cost a few bucks.
I already had one at home, but i noticed mine was too loose fitting to get any grip.
So I then did the method below:

Get a thin soft rubbery material(look in your kitchen somewhere).
put the rubbery material between the filter and the tool. twist in a counterclockwise fashion.
it should come off with ease. I feel like mac guyver.

some guys use a white grease on the o-ring don't do that it causes the o-ring to swell just use motor oil and tighten it 1/4 to 1/2 turn after the seal ring seats and you can get it back off every time. most people think it has to be gorilla tight so it don't leak well thats why it has that seal, just seat it and go a little turn and your done
