having a BBQ at an auto-x would be a great idea. Every Auto-x (only 3) i have been to we always had to get a food run together. that would make a lot of money and make everyone happy from good food.

as far as the oil changes, not a good idea. one little mistake and you just purchased a new car and that is not a good thing.

The only way to do the oil change thing would be to pair up with a shop. Get them to agree to give you x% of every oil change with a certain flyer or something. Sort of like how Jamba Juice and others do their fund raisers.

good point.

but i do think the BBQ at the auto-x would be a great idea.
how great would it be to be able to grab a burger or a dog without leaving the run?

sounds like a good idea, but there will probably be too much in terms of liability.

I'm not discounting this idea. Just offering advice on the original idea.

Dammit, now I'm hungry... haha.

Before you go nuts on the "selling food at an autocross" idea

Be aware that contractually we (SCCA) are limited in onsite food vendors at some of our sites. There is more going on than might first appear...

I'm sure there's more than just bring a bbq and grill. As I'm sure SCCA has rented out the space and there's contracts and guidelines which must be followed. However, I've seen clubs hold plenty of bbqs and SCCA auto-x down south, so I thought it would be very possible.

Also, would this technically be classified as a "vendor" if he were to not charge anything but ask for donations for the food instead?

Remember, by changing oil, you become a HAZMAT generator and are responsible FOREVER for that waste oil.
Now, if you were to partner w/ a shop......

So I'm in the red cross club here at school and we're trying to raise some money for the club and what not. everyone does car washes and it's pretty common and unless there's girls in bikini's, i doubt we'll generate too much money.

since we're off the oil change topic anyway, and it's for the Red Cross Club, why not take orders for earthquake preparedness kits like the ones in the sticky at the top of the BAIC forum? You could probably get a bunch of people to buy 'em, even with a fundraiser markup.

Hey, thanks everyone for the response. We're brain storming on ideas and came up with stuff like selling food, selling kits, and car washes, and stuff like that. I knew oil changes were gonna be hard, but just an idea. I was just thinking since i see so many car washes , might as well do something i know well that most don't, but yeah, thanks for all your input! We're going to be selling baked goods, hot chocoloate (damn the nice weather i guess we'll have to sell some good ole lemon ice tea, jk , i think some craft thing or what not, and....yeah a few others.

Selling food at the autox or any other event sounds like a great idea, i'll have to research some more. i doubt they will hae too much of a problem, it's not like we're here to profit, it's for a good cause. Thanks again for the input!

By the way, if anyone is interested about donating to cancer, there is an event called Relay for Life by the American Cancer Society, http://www.relayforlife.org/ , it's a 24 hour event where particpants just walk the field. A lot of organizers join. I don't care who you donate through, if you can give support I'm sure a LOT of people will appreciate it. Thanks again for the idea, and if anyone have a cool idea that's not typical, i'd love to hear it!
