Hey guys, could use your help:

So I have a RT-AC66 Router, and my windows7 64bit server is connected to it with ethernet. I have HTPC that's connected to a Dlink Wireless Bridge in the living room, and all that works fine.

Both computers max out my comcast connections (55/11)

However, sometimes, the server doesn't have an IP, or does, but is limited (no internet). Sometimes when it shows to be working just fine, when I do a computer to computer transfer, or just want to look at what's on the server from my HTPC (using windows network icon, so SMB), it's slow... like 70KB\s slow. Eventually it just fails.

If I restart the Server, it works okay. I'm thinking bad Ethernet port... Maybe try a NIC?

Curveball: Before I got the Dlink Bridge, I had a netgear bridge. That thing would reset it self constantly. So to me, same symptops of bad connection, but if I looked over, it was resetting it self. The Dlink doesn't do this. ------------- Could it be my Router?

Sometimes when I have the bad IP on the server resetting the router didn't do anything. Sometimes it did. It does seem to run VERY HOT. So who knows.

Any thoughts? I can't imagine the PC to PC transfer would be just 70KB/s yet I can speed test the server right then and there at 55mbps!

1) Check if DHCP is disabled on the bridge router
2) Make sure the bridge router asks for a static IP from the gateway, preferably from the opposite end of the DHCP pool. ie if the router hands out address from 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.199, set the bridge to 199.
3) make sure they are on the same subnet
4) check for newer firmwares
5) It might just be a case of two different brands not being completely compatible, or it's overheating since you said it gets really hot.

Agreed with what Wonger said.

Also try moving the HTPC and connecting it straight to your router minus the bridge. If you have no issues then you know the bridge is the culprit. Otherwise you may have to replace the network card.

Best of luck.

Thanks guys!

The bridge may not have a static IP. I'll check this weekend. Remember though the HTPC and other things do work fine even though PC to PC loss doesn't.

I can move the HTPC and try over Ethernet and see as well.

Well, as a quick and dirty test for my networking issues I disabled Ethernet on the htpc and connected a USB WiFi dongle. Works really well so far. Going to test it some more this morning.

So even though I can max a speed test over Ethernet @ 55mbps, it would only give me 1mbps for a windows to windows transfer. Now I'm doing about 70mbps over WiFi.

I still have the wireless bridge for the TV, bluray player, and dish network box. (All of which work perfect)

Bump.

Been using the wifi adapter for months now and it works perfect, so I've decided to keep it this way for now. Eventually I'll run Ethernet to this area and then see how it works then.

But right now, it looks like a bad ethernet port on my motherboard. Could also throw in a NIC and see how that works, but again, this is working really well for me.

Got FIFA 13, F1 2012, Madden 08 w/ Madden 25 skins and updates, Dirt 3 and Grid up and running.

Everything works fine at near max settings. Thinking about getting a second MSI HD7870 and going crossfire. Need to see if the board has a 2nd x16 PCIE slot in it. if it's doesn't or if it's no x16 then I won't bother.

Reading reviews online and seems like crossfire actually nearly doubles the FPS in most games.

Then again my motherboard is older and only PCIE 2.0. Not sure if worth it.

Looks like my Asus P8z68-v motherboard goes into PCIE x8 if you go SLI/Crossfire. Still worth it since I'll have twice the memory?

Oh sweet! Seems like a fun thread. Well hello, here's my set up-
I have a haf 932 custom painted pink trim
Msi p67 gda45
I5 2500k oc'd to 4.4ghz
Ocz 120 gig ssd as my boot drive with a backup 1tb WD black drive
Oldie 5870
Corsair h100
16 gigs of ripjaws 1600mhz
Been a bit out of touch with the PC community the past year due to having quite a few pricey interests.
Sort of outdated (built two years ago) but it's definitely more than average today!

Built a new computer.

Cooler Master HAF 932 Advanced Case
i7 4770k @ 4 GHz
Corsair Hydro Series H100i CPU Cooler (Even my computer has a TMIC)
MSI Z87-G45 MoBo
PC Power & Cooling Silencer Mk III 850W
ASUS GTX770-DC2OC-2GD5 GeForce GTX 770 2GB
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB 1866 MHz
LG 27EA33V Black 27" Monitor

3D Mark Score: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770 video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-4770K,MSI Z87-G45 GAMING (MS-7821)

Haven't fiddled with clocking the GPU yet. I'm maxing out every game I own without being able to run 1440p resolution. I'm held back by the FPS cap on highest settings on BF4 while my old computer had to be run on medium graphics to run the game. My big problem is that I have 11 Windows updates that for some reason won't install.

This replaces https://www.i-club.com/forums/bay-ar...3/#post3402588

^ If anyone wants any of the parts from the previous computer let me know. I no longer have a need for them.

[edit] MSI board is being RMA'ed. Replaced with an Asus Maximus VI Hero ROG board. If anyone wants the MSI board when I get it back for $100, it's yours.
