New Optima battery does not start the car?

Hi,

Can anyone give me some help?

I just bought a Optima battery online.
After I put that in, the car cannot start, it looks like it doesn't got enough battery power to start the car. The alarm sounds weak, the bashboard has very dim light.

Am I suppose to jump start it? I never replace a battery before, what am I suppose to do?
Is that battery bad?

Thanks

I wouldn't

The battery shouldn't be dead, i'd ask for a replacment that actually works.

usually when people buy new batteries its cuz their old ones went bad.

a non-charged new battery would be pointless in that case, and that is the case 95% of the time.

I bought my red top from sears and my car started up fine, but if you ordered it online it might not have been charged when it was sent to you, bring it to kragen or something and have them test it if you dont have a tester

I took it to Pepboys for testing. They said the Optima is a "DryCell" type (non liquid) battery, the battery analyzer machine won't work, it will always said bad battery on the machine.

Is it true?

btw, I did tighten both terminals.

go jump start it.

then drive around, locally for about an hour.

stop the car, let it sit for about half an hour and then start again.

it should start up right away.

if not, you have a bad batt.

i bought one from pep boys last year and about half a year later, it would barely hold a 12 volt charge.

figured it was a bad cell in it.

they replaced and this one has been good in my toyota truck.

FWIW, i've been a red top optima owner since like 92 or 93... i love these batts. including one time when 4wheeling and i winched for what seemed like all day... lol...

go to a different shop, or just buy a charger. the good chargers will be able to work with a red top
