Need a protune: EQ tuning VS GST
This is the right place to post for questions like that. People will have their experiences and their opinions which gives you a 1st hand dealing with the customers who bought from them.
Yes there are reputable shops and yes we are all not perfect so some shops may have a hiccup here and there, but that's why shops want to see feedback. So they can improve where things need to be improved.
In the end it's the experience that keeps you coming back. Good luck with your choice.

you just gotta know who to ignore and who's comments to pay attention to when it comes to sharing opinions. (I'm not implying to ignore Ray's comments, he's one to listen to)Ray, great customer service at an automotive shop is achievable. Not everyone cares about customer service though, some only care about the quality of the work. I however, care about both. Again, I'm not saying GST is a bad shop. As to what Mike said, it seems like they've acknowledged that there is a market out there that cares about both and is working to cater to that market as well, and kudos to them for doing so.
It is definitely achievable (high customer satisfaction). And I think Mike is showing that that is what they're trying to do. I was just saying its a lot easier to keep customers happy and a lot easier to spend extra (read cheap/free) over time with customers to make them happy when you're a one man show.
Like freelance design for instance. I can charge for say 6 hours of work and knowing my name is on there and since I don't have to pay other employees I can say spend an extra hour on it and all it does is bring MY hourly pay down. Larger shops don't have that ability so when time is up time is up. I know Mike and the guys go above and beyond all the time but they can only do that with in reason and with relation to how many other paying customers are at the shop with their own apts. that day.
See what I"m saying? Not knocking Ed.. just trying to explain the nature of the beast.
So like I said before... my only issue is the WHAT IF factor.
You can only listen to me so much on this because I'm one of those guys with bias. I like ed. I'll have a beer with ed and talk shop with him but when it comes time for ANYTHING to be done to my car that I can do by myself with the help of Jeff or Justin my car WILL go to Mike and GST.

Trashing threads happens when people assume stupid stuff, and make comments they have no basis to speak on except their own bias. For example you, Why would you assume thats not the complete full story, are you some type of Sherlock Holmes. Infact that is the whole story and it couldn't be more simple, I've also used GST in the past before that time and was happy, just not the latest time. It's as simple as how I wrote it above, I agree I don't want either person being trashed But I do feel I owe my 2 cents, and that is what the OP asked for and what msg forums are about.
so I pose a question to you as sherlock would do... How much time did you pay for?
just trying to clear things up for the folks at home.

Been running Mikes tune since Oct. 06 when he was at Gruppe-s. Still very pleased with the tune and I've had ZERO issues with how the car runs. I'll definitely go back once I have the funds to add some more whp.

I have also been running Mikes tunes for a while now (4+years) and have never had a problem with my car. This just goes to show you how reliable mikes tunes are for the long run not to mention other shops bring their cars to Mike to tune. I wouldn't trust anyone else with my car!

If you're talking about what I think you're talking about, what happens at either shop? You're modifying a car outside of its 'intended' parameters and what legal leg do you have to stand on if something goes boom?
I'm more curious if there's anything you could do than I am playing devils advocate.

Every tuner has made a mistake and if they haven't they just haven't tuned enough cars.
That's what insurance is for and why mike's dyno has I believe over $2million in insurance coverage.

I would assume that's not the complete story as I've never directly heard of such a thing. So I do have a basis to compare your statement to.

If its tuner error you have a leg to stand on. That'd be like telling a surgeon that screwed up in surgery that its o.k. because I'm modifying it outside of the intended parameters. Don't HAVE to get that knee surgery or get those eye corrected.

I can say that having insurance on your dyno is a good thing, however when dealing with tuning, the dyno isn't he place where the car is going to break. The vast majority of motors that blow up cause of a tune, happen on the road within 2-3 months of the original tune. Normally from having bad timing and fuel settings.
However, this is not something i would be worried about with either Ed or Mike.
Thanks everybody for feedbacks. I didn't realize until now someone can get
for sharing their experience with either one of these tuners.
If that's the case, I would appreciate moderator to delete/stop this thread now. I just wanted my hard earned cash to be well spend.
In any case, I feel I'm lucky to have a opportunity to pick and choose from these good suby tuners. It's great to live in bay-area!
