It's not a jar, it's a hood.

Essentially you don't need to have a hood release to unhitch the latch on the hood, the release is connected to a cable, the cable is connected to the latch. Depending on how you're grill is, the latch might be more exposed than others. The pull release just creates a pivot so it is easier to pull the cable with the sprung tension. You can probably pop your hood with a flat head if you get the latch in the right place.
Thats what I suspect but of course there is always that chance that it didnt close last time I closed it. This happened wednesday morning when I came outside. Tuesday I didnt work on my car, Monday I checked my oil and drove around quite a bit and I'm positive it was closed Tuesday morning so it either popped open tuesday night after the SJ Giants game, or someone is messing with me.

did you pop the hood last night at all before going in?
nope! Not at all... I'll check everything mentioned in the thread thus far though

Maybe it's the latch? One time I drove my car around and came home went inside for a bit and came out to realize the hood was partially opened. Realized it was probably my hood latch so I greased it up with some lithium grease. I'm assuming my hood popped open when I made a really sharp turn or went over a speed bump. Maybe the same thing happened to you?
