The scanner will tell you if the on board diagnostic system recognizes a problem... if so it'll be stored in the computer. An obd II scanner is handy anyhow because it works on most 1996 (I think) and newer cars.

I'd still put $5 on the timing belt being the culprit, but you should check for codes just in case.

Well I just did a OBDII scan and it's not throwing any errors. So what else could it be. T belt? I think changing a T belt from a honda dealer is pretty expensive right?

If I were you, I'd take it to either a dealer or a reputable honda mechanic (I prefer the 2nd option). Don't let some random joe mess with it. If it turns out to be the timing belt, you will need to change out the water pump, tensioner, anti-freeze, and belts at the same time, so it can be pricey. There is the possibility that the timing belt isn't the problem, but it should be changed between 60-90k miles anyway from what I remember (I used to work at an Acura dealer in the early 90s).

What checks have you done so far? You haven't told us anything that you have found...When was the last tune-up done on the car? Fuel filter is to be changed at every2 yrs or at 60k. I don't remember. You'll have to replace some parts if the tune-up hasn't been done. Why not check them to be sure...

Wait, you said it makes a noise. What kind of noise? Scratchy sound like the timing belt is fraying, or ???
