Mechanical Problem
Mechanical Problem
This is my GF car. Her car broke down but we dont' want to bring it into the shop yet since it might be something that we could fix without costing us an arm an a leg.
The car is a 01 Civic. So the problem is the car will start but it's noise and vibrates. It runs for a while then stalls. It doesn't have any power when you step on the gas pedal. I checked the oil and it's okay. So what do you guys thing is the problem?
Need help things......
Or please suggest what I can do. I am in the berkeley area so I can toll it to El Cerrito Honda but that will cost me a fortunate to even get it diagonis there.

pull the ecu code. There should be one if it's driving bad. Engine stumbling? It sounds like a few things: Map sensor harness loose, O2 sensor is bad (common), misfiring (ignition)...do the routine check of spark, fuel, connections

How many miles? The timing belt may have jumped a tooth if it has >60k miles. If your belt snaps altogether and you are revving, say bye-bye to the valves and pistons.
I second running the codes to see if anything is stored. I'd guess that OBDII would have a code unless it's the timing belt.

should be a green plug underneath on the right side of the glovebox.

watch the check engine light. It'll blink, and you have to count how many times it blinks and it'll be those #s that make up the code. Atleast, that's how it is on my bro's lude

NO NO NO NO NO... don't waste your time pulling the plugs... Useless.
Go to harborfreight and get an OBDII scanner. They are about $40-50, and it comes with a book that tells you what the code means.
If the computer isn't storing any codes, I'd be willing to bet it's the timing belt. How many miles on the car?
By the way, did anything happen before this occurred, like pressure-washing the engine or anything?

My bro has an old accord that did the same thing too....it would be fine when driving but at idle it would idle very hard and almost die out....he found out that the radiator was empty cause of a leak...so the car would only stay cool when there was air flow. You might want to check the cooling system.
