I'm going to get flamed for this for sure, but here's my answer.

Build your own computer, you'll learn a lot and be better able to figure out what went wrong. That leaves you looking at Windows or Linux for an operating system, and I'm perfectly fine with that.

Good answer, thing is I'm not interested nor do I have the time.

It's another hobby and my car takes precedence as well as a bunch of other things, but my hats off to those who can do it

How'd it go. That was gonna be my recommendation.

Other than that I'd suggest getting a copy of some kind of maintenance software. Norton. iDefrag. Disk Warrior. Etc.

I need to run it on mine.

as for the PC comments.... don't think he was asking how to spend the rest of his life fighting off viruses and being traps with half assed microsoft products.

I disagree. Building a machine is easy as pie, and it won't give you much insight at all into software problems with the hardware. Software/drivers blah blah are way to complicated for you to gain any insight from the hardware. Maybe if the hardware is dead or something.........but generally speaking learning to build a computer offers zero insight in figuring out problems like this.

It's on the second disc right now and its going good. Still has 30 min left. It's got Norton 360 on it, I don't know what happened.

Some people aren't interested in computers, they just need to use them. Other people don't like Windows.

Do you think your wives/girlfriends would be interested in rebuilding an engine, or do they just want to drive the car?
