Looks Like War Is Inevitable...How High Will Gas Prices Hit in the Bay Area?
Hi everyone,
Well, it looks like we are going to war. I realize that there are more important ramifications and effects of what is unfolding, but I am curious as to how high you guys and girls think gas prices will go.
While I understand that countless people across the world will be affected (in many ways) by the war, I'm posting this in BAIC, since we do have the highest gas prices in the nation.
In addition to wondering how gas prices will go, I also would like to get your opinions on how long you think it will be before prices return to "normal" levels--$1.80/gallon or less? I know it all depends on how long the war lasts and how badly the Iraqi oil fields, infrastructure, and political regimes are damaged, but will it take 1 year, 2 years, MORE??
In any case, I wish all the best to everyone and their loved ones, esp. those who are serving our country. I hope I speak for the majority of those in the US in saying that "Your bravery and dedication are GREATLY appreciated!!" [BIG THUMBS UP!!]
Peace
CL

When people start to REALLY complain (IE when we get close to $3 a gallon) then the gov. folks will start to step in...
I was hoping that instead of invading Iraq, we would invade OPEC, but I guess that wont happen anytime soon

But yeah, I know what you mean. I've never understood the mentality of using a 12 MPG (if that) gas-powered SUV to run all of your around-town errands with ONE person in the truck.
As for higher prices elsewhere (i.e. Canada, Europe, etc)......it's basically a function of FAR higher fuel taxes in those countries/regions. The gas itself is the same cost (more or less) to produce. Whether or not we should have similar taxes in this country is a public policy debate for another time/place
That all said : I'll predict that gas prices are LOWER than they are now by June 1st.

I drove from the Bay Area up to Tahoe this weekend and saw a huge range of prices. Tahoe City was around $2.65 for premium, Sac was pretty close to that. Palo Alto was around $2.40 and Sunnyvale seemed to be around $2.30.
What I don't get is why Sacremento is so expensive for gas? At least Tahoe City can claim to be a small market/difficult access.
