Looking for a CLEAN single din head unit.
Hey everybody,
I'm looking to get something to replace my factory double din in my bugeye sedan. I have factory everything in the car right now(speakers and factory sub). I read that on most aftermarket headunits I'll still be able to use my factory sub?
Things that I'm looking for in the single din head unit:
1) Around $200, but it can be more if it's really that great
2) I don't want dolphins swimming across my head unit, i want a nice clean look
my idea of what a clean head unit looks like:

I don't want an ugly alien vs predator headunit like these:

3) I want to be able to still use my factory sub in it's stock location under the passenger seat for the time being until a get a better small sub or decide to go with something in the trunk
4) I read something about the kenwood KDC-BT945U being able to do this and thought it might be relevant, but i don't know for sure
I looked at the kenwood KIV-BT900 and kenwood KDC-BT945U online and those seem to look pretty cool(picture posted above)
Cliff notes: Whats a good single din that doesn't look tacky and will still allow me to use factory underseat sub? I listen to all kinds of music.

When you hook your iPod to the receiver's USB input, you'll bypass your iPod's digital-to-analog converter, allowing Kenwood's superior 24-bit DAC to make your files sound their best. If you're not using an iPod, you can load up a thumb drive with MP3, WMA, and AAC files, connect it to the rear USB input, and get the same fidelity. You'll also find a rear auxiliary input for MP3 players and other audio sources.

I use CDs currently because I can't play music through my phone with the stock double din. I dunno how useful playing CDs will be though since I will be able to use my ipod

I was able to get this at 200 bucks from amazon. Really good deck and includes pretty much all types of convenient features like bluetooth, usb, aux, etc.

My cousin actually has that Kenwood deck you have pics of, He seems to like It a lot. Hes always been a stereo nut and likes the good quality stuff, I was a little confused as to why he got a Kenwood ( Personal preference ) but I was wrong Its a really nice stereo and easy to use.

No offence but Your willing to spend 200+ on a single din when you can just save a little longer and get a double din for about 350-450..? O_o
Our cars have all that room in the deck area for a reason! Put it to use and dont go cheap =)

For a while I wanted a avic d3 for a while, but Idon't see the need for a double din...at least for me.
I already have two forms of gps in the car, I don't play DVDs, don't really have a need/use for a touchscreen. Oh and I like that when you get a single din, you now have that extra din slot for storage.
At least for me, I don't like the look of most double dins. The only good thing about a double din that might be useful to me is the ability to play multiple CDs I guess, but all the songs I would put onto a CD are already going to be in my ipod anyways..
I found the kenwood kiv700 for $230 shipped at amazon.
Does your cousin come out to the tuesday night meets?

i'm looking for a clean DEAD HEAD unit...
must have:
1. time delay setting for speakers. (parametric) EQ also.
2. aux inputs. multiple the better. USB input would be nice.
3. if you dont know what what DEAD HEAD is, it's a head unit without power, or amplification.

Kenwood makes great audio stuff, their Excelon line is pretty much on par if not better for the price than with a lot of pioneer head units.
Just like how people knock on jvc's aresenal line, they can compete with mid range alpine units and come in about $100+ cheaper.
I'm not sure how the factory sub is wired up (directly to wiring harness it should work fine), but there are probably stereo shops that can do it for you while installing your head unit.
Look around for which head units appeal to you the best feature wise. I had the same problem for a double DIN a couple months ago. I ended up spending $50 over my budget to get the unit that look-wise was pretty easy on the eyes, but feature wise was nothing short of what i wanted.
Look at this Clarion.

I had another model as my first head unit, and sent it to my relatives overseas when i upgraded. The stereo is almost 9 years old and running strong. This unit is well under your budget and packed full of features as well as a clean interface. plus it's got a slider port for USB and 3.5mm jack.

Everthing I needed for a price I couldn't beat. got mine when it was 68 bucks on closeout during the holidays. I love it, has usb/aux/fine w/ radio/cd's and mp3's. ipod control isn't the best however it's cheap, looks great, works great and has better sound output than any kenwood single din I've owned. Sound quality is also better than my old pioneer indash I sold a good while back.
