Point and shot or DSLR.

I have a Canon XTi (400D). Pretty damn good. Taken a lot of good shots. If you are just learning photography it's the one to get. for 799 at costco foo the body and kit lens. Nikon is good too but Canon for ease of use (user friendly manuels and functions)

That guy is a tool. First off, it actually has a SMALLER sensor. On top of that, the D40 is smaller, lighter, has a larger grip, auto ISO option, 2.5" LCD.

The only thing the Rebel XT has on the D40 is 2 megapixels and 4 more focus points. The extra focus points come in handy, but the difference in resolution between 6 and 8 megapixels is marginal at best. Having said that, the Rebel is a great camera designed by some of the best in the business. But it just happens that the guy you spoke to is just a tool.

I don't think so at all. When I tried the Canon at the store (my first choice), I couldn't get use to the menu and controls. I picked up the D40 next to it and it was childs play campared to the Canon. I think that's what helped finalize my decision. I didn't read the manual for my D40 for the first 2 weeks.

I just got the Nokon 18-200mm VR lens in today. This thing wipes the floor with the kit lens. The only other lenses I could see getting now would be the 12-24 and the 70-300 VR for any super wide angles or big time zoom

To the OP:

Congrats on the new Canon. I'm picking up the same one in a month or two. Been wanting that one for a while now. Let us know how you like it.

edit * nvm, 400 is a good price for SD and case.

D40 vs REbel XT is like the Evo vs STi discussion. Matter of perference.

http://forums.***************/showthr...uid=0&t=532790

There's also a deal for 2 1gb SD for 25 each.

Nice, are you happy with the camera? Probably the best point and shoot out there. Any negative feedback about it?

Try taking some with more color variation in the picture, rather than black gray and red. And nice pic with the selective coloring.

Anybody want to buy a Nikon L6? I'm thinking of picking up that SD800 a little early.

I give you good deal... you buy now!

Thumbs up

Reviving from the dead.Had to replace one camera, our point-and-shoot.
Our old trusty Nikon Coolpix 990 got wet in the rain during a trip up to Bodega Bay last week. It started messing up. I thought letting it dry off would help but alas, no go.
So today after some researching, we ended up with this:

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/co...&modelid=15657

Considered the SD850 or 800 IS but this seems better for our use and the options match and better our old Nikon's.
We'll see how it does.
