Try to lie as much as possible so that they don't think it's a special event. All you need to do basically is to down play how many people we have and not tell them about ANY of the events we have planned... All they need to know about is the BBQ and that some folks are showing up... Thats ALL they need to know, otherwise we have to pay like a couple grand for the special event permit which basically rents out the entire park.
So yeah, lie lie lie!!! I've done it many times in the past, it's easy.
It's not like we're getting over on the park, we're still paying them BAAANK for this event, not to mention the money they get from the parking from everyone.
In the end we both win... We get the site for a decent price and they get a bunch of money from us. It'd be cool if we could get like $100 of spare money to buy them a little gift from BAIC... Or if we could write them a check for a donation that goes DIRECTLY to the park instead of going through all the channels it normally has to go through. We did this for the observatory for 3 years in a row... I think we threw in like $200 one year straight to the observatory. The lady that tends the place knows us and says we're the best car club that comes around there.
But yeah, this meet takes a lot of time and a lot of money to make happen, I'm glad that someone else stepped up to the plate for once! You guys rock for doing this... And maybe now people will realize how much time and effort this thing actually takes to set up... Perhaps you wont be attacked by anyone like ipozesedu for your efforts to make this happen... You'll get a lot of people that get jealous and want to take this meet into their own hands and make it into something completely different, but this meet is what it is and will stay this way forever.

Well, I won't bring up anything to them, and we'll just see if the parks lady ever calls me back.

i never said this year in the past 2 posts, i used past tense words to refer to the potential plans that were discussed last year for 2007 Hammy... a little bird told me we were pretty close to a sick day at Laguna Seca.

I am sure if you ask Ed or Gagan, they could probably give you a ballpark figure on site rentals for auto-x, not to mention the nitty-gritty like insurance, paperwork, etc., not to mention the limited choices of quality sites.
Quite frankly, I don't think a "motorsports" event would be remotely possible next year, or within in the next few years for that matter. I know that people mean well, but let's face the facts here. You guys are having trouble right now for this years event. What makes you think that a motorsport event/meet is even in your range? You are already having trouble accommodating 300+ cars. And how do you expect to find enough participants to put on a break even event for say a track day or an auto-x?

No one has objections to planning a Laguna meet, NO ONE... What I don't understand is why the few of you guys are trying to replace the current meet with the race car meet? Why not have both? It's not like we can only have ONE meet.
The annual meet and the way it is always attracts a lot of people because it's inexpensive and really fun, unless of course you're a sociopath and don't like talking to people, then I can see how it would suck. It's simple and fun, not only for the i-club member, but for friends and family too!
The problem with a race track day is that you wont get NEARLY as many people to attend. It costs a lot, its far, and many folks don' like tracking their cars... Sucks, but thats the reality. We make the annual meet the way it is because EVERYONE can attend, and its also fun for everyone, that is the reason we have 400ish people that show up.
We do it because it applies to everyone, unlike a track day which is very specific as to what kind of people attend so you'd be leaving out many people from the meet.
Like I said, no one is stopping you from creating a meet of your own, we just can't get rid of the current meet to accommodate a race track day.

Track days, if not any motorsport, is expensive to organize. The Hypermeet in January, that was planned to be an "exclusive" Subaru and Mitsubishi track day, which was awesome, didn't quite get the numbers that the organizers were looking for.
For the record, I had a blast, and I had a s***load of seat time.
My point being... the event was publicized for 9 months. I knew of it since March last year. I bumped the their thread a bunch of times in the last three months prior to the event to get more people out there.
The end result, 4 Subaru's, GST, and ucbsti (in his Evo) showed up. Sure... you might say it was Thunderhill. Sure, you might say it was forecasted to rain. I heard that a good 20-25 people didn't even show up.
The point being, if we can't even get enough people from two or more forums to commit to a track day, or any motorsports for that matter, how in the world do you plan to get enough people to commit from a single forum?

As great of an idea it is to actually have an I-Club Meet/track day, there are some serious obstacles that have to be overcome. Just ask the NorCalEvo guys.

that was the biggest storm in a while. The volvo track day the day before the hypermeet was cancelled. if you had called the track that day, they were planning on canceling the hypermeet as well. More like 30+ people didn't show up for that day. i think its mainly because the evo guys are whiners and didnt want to drive in the rain HAHAHA j/k
It is very hard to organize anything nowadays. people are flaky, dont pay, dont want to pay, and such. Believe me, im all for a BAIC mortorsports day of somesorts, i just wont be "the hammy meet"

I have been lurking in the shadows whilst contacting vendors and such...
Personally I don't think we should lie to the park... I don't think we will need a special event permit... our "events" will be very low key... the only thing that might be stepping over the line would be the vendors selling their schwag...
But I have to say that after talking to the vendors I am getting REALLY excited for all of this...

and i wanted you to be my instructor on my first lap
