Liability Insurance for BAIC Meet

Hey guys,

anyone know how we can obtain insurance for our event? How have we handled this in the past with Joseph Grant park?

This isn't a requirement right now, as simply we are having a "picnic" (NO EVENTS)

But if we want to have events there (raffle, vendor sales, etc) we may need to have insurance.

Getting costly...

Dont need insurance if you have attendees sign a waiver form. What are you afraid of happening?

Depends on what kind of "event"....

...and how much coverage you'll need.

When a number like 10-15 million in liability was floated for one of the venues being considered last year, even the pro rally guys winced, as their events typically have 1-4 million dollar aggregate policy limits.

While there are insurance brokers out there that specialize in all kinds of different policies, only a few companies are willing to write them on motorsport events, but if motorsports aren't involved, you should have a lot more options.

I'd google "event insurance" and see what comes up...

these guys even have an easy on-line free quote form;

Landowners nowadays often require liability policies so that they don't have to sue anybody if- for example, someone drives into a fence, or something stupid like that.

Its not a function of what he's worried about, its more in response to a "we require that you have a million dollar liability policy" sort of thing.

$1 Million

There isn't a need right now, but if EB Parks feels we might fit the bill of a "Special Event", well, we will have to show proof of such insurance. We'll see what we can do. I just hope we have enough financial support to take care of all this.

There is a place on Taraval at the 20-something aves. They specialize in special events insurance.

for sure, but that's another issue from seeing if people would be willing to allow someone to attach an impreza meet to their insurance...

No he's not, I only mentioned rally because I know how much Rally insurance costs, his will be less expensive for sure, but Gagan is talking about a BIG (like 200+ cars) meet, that might involve vendors and stuff, but when you get down to it- essentially it is just a bunch of people hanging out.

If you think you can just show up someplace and do that, I'd say you don't know much about how things work in this day in age.

Most likely you are being told to go to your homeowner's insurance provider, tell them you are doing this and they will want to write you an "Umbrella" policy attached to your HO policy.

The umbrella policy costs you a certain amount over your regular coverage, but essentially extends your liability coverage beyond your immediate home, in most cases its less expensive then going out and buying stand-alone event insurance, and gets you some degree of protection in situations like that,

-might enough for this gig...
