Kirkwood saddens me
The last couple of seasons we were doing Alpine more than Squaw, but that was pretty much because of the 2:1 (almost) difference in ticket price.
In some ways I hope that Squaw buys out Alpine. This would make a huge ski area and it looks like there is some good terrain between the two resorts off the back of Alpine. OTOH, I know that, were this to happen, they would make Heavenly look cheap wrt lift tickets.

been YEARS since I road out there though. I haven't been to SB in probably 5 years.
KILLER if you're with people that know the place. Some decent in bounds and soft bounds hikeables too.
A lot like bear valley with better snow.
Alpine was always horridly icy and at same time kirkwood would be amazing.
Sqaw is cool, but its not just the ticket prices, its the drinks/food.....
kirkwood has a general store you can eat for 5 bucks there. Sqaw is close to 30 per meal, and more if you want anything decent. It's a rich mans place for sure......
Kirkwood sure could use a hot tub/heated pool tho!!!!

I read a similar thing in a ski magazine last year about Alpine. The review said that Alpine has one of the best off-piste runs in the Tahoe area. Obviously it is outside the boundary and you have to hitch-hike back to the resort. It sounded like you needed local knowledge to do it 'safely' though.
