There aren't a whole lot of deals elsewhere in Tahoe either though. I paid $649 for a "locals" Sugarbowl pass a few years back. That was completely unrestricted though and I rode 23 or 24 days that year ($649/23=$28/day). Gas is more now as are tickets. I looked into getting an Alpine Meadows pass this year and it was something like $749 for an unrestricted adult pass. That's tough to handle, even on an early/long season of riding. Last year I only rode 7 or 8 days and 6 or 7 of them were at least 10" deep. Lots of times I'll go up and only ride the better of the two days on the weekend 'cause the cost of the damn tickets.

so those $300 passes are weekday non holiday?

OK nm i looked and black out dates are only 27-31 and Feb 18/19 or something no big deal.

2nd edit Ok i found the college pass, but those buddy tickets for $40 might be worth it to buy the $369 adult pass? hmm

I think its fine a lot of ppl come to kirkwood as long as they arent lame. Ive been there when they turned away people and the lift lines were just like a regular weekend day at sugarbowl etc....

i think its good because when you get off the lifts at kirk you are like damn i want to ride that mountain (into nowhere) and i hear they are going to put in some new lifts, hopefully those. Point being kirkwood can't really get crowded and they hvae mountain to gain but price hikes are lame. They spent a lot on those condos prob not getting much for them

Wow! I didn't know that the Wood limited ticket sales! I think that's awesome! I know they do that in SoCal, where the resorts are tiny. Hence, this policy is absolutely necessary. I know more of our Tahoe resorts need to adopt this practice.

Yep, new lifts are part of their improvement plan. I talked w/ this chica at the booth at the snow expo. She was all stoked & showed me the article in The Kirkwood Times, where they talk about the Forest Service's approval of their development plan. Chair 4, the slug-like quad on the back-side, will finally be replaced b/c they got the 'OK' to replace the power line that services it. It's gonna go all the way to the top of Thimble Peak. Plus, they'll be adding a surface tow just beyond the drop-in for The Wave to make it easier to access the goodies of Fawn Ridge. Personally, I liked the idea of "earning" some of my turns. Those to be had after doing the 99 Steps after several inches of fresh are among my favorite of all the resorts I've been. Too bad everyone else will be able to smash 'em up in a couple years. The article also said that another lift is slated to run fr: the Village to Caples Crest along with a couple other surface tows. Lucky for us the first phase of the plan is all about the lift system.

And supposedly there are plans to run a lift fr: the Timber Creek base up to the Palisades. This tidbit was fr: "booth girl" & I did not read that in the article nor did I come across it on their website. So don't get too excited yet. Btw, this is another fun part of the mtn. But it sure is a helluva lotta work.

Oh, and the best part of choppin' it up w/ this chica was the hook-up of a $25 Early Season ticket voucher! Can't wait to use it on Friday! Almost forgot, she also gave me a schweet beer cozy!

for crying out loud they have added over 20 residential sites (over 400 units) most priced well into the 800,000!!! haha for a vacation home!!
bear valley is starting to do the same thing now. pisses me off.

They've spent like $10million the last 2 years. They are buying out the bear valley village so they can build a lift from there to the mountain...etc.

Kirkwood has some of the best terrain around but so does sugar bowl. Going to tahoe you have a lot more available. Kirkwood thinks they are gonna become their own tahoe. They want to be like mammoth or vail. And they'll probably do it. But for now I'll stay on my little hill that gets the same snow that kirkwood gets.

It's very sad that every year lift tickets prices goes up not a little but dramatically. Considering the fact that these pass 2 years the snow really sucked. Where I came from (Vancouver) the snow kicks *** there and the resort are much bigger and nicer and they charge maybe half of what they charge here now.

I've been the Kirkwood once and I had a bad impression of it because of the icy wall and very crowned due to noobies were sitting on the wall. Plus, it was a hell of a drive to a place in the middle of nowhere. The highways has like single lane traffic. Don't like it. Sugar Bowl and Sierra for me.

I think for this season I am just going to use the couple of Free lift tickets that I got at the ski show. Screw blackout days, take a day off of work and hit the slopes with no kids and no noobies.

Shhh! For everyone out there, Sugarbowl is horrible - don't go there!

Seriously, SB is on the rising side of the Sierras and statistically, it gets some of the biggest snowfall in the Tahoe area. It has awesome un-pisted runs - Silverbelts, Nancy's Couloir etc. Fortunately, most of the public prefers to go over into the Tahoe bowl for Heavenly, Northstar, Squaw etc.

IMO Northstar and Heavenly are at the bottom of my list. NS runs are the lamness of all. Short and cheezy. Heavenly you get to the bottom there is a hella flat area that you need to bascially walk to get to a different lift.

Haven't tried Squaw.
