Question just got my new clutch

I just got the new clutch that subaru is offering as a fix to the clutch chatter. Chatter isnt as bad as the old one, but i'd rather have my old clutch back, i wonder if they will let me have it back. I get chatter all the time now, but this time its not as bad, but even when the car is fully warmed up its still chatters, my old one went away after the car warmed up.

my question is: is it supposed to do this cause its new, or is the clutch just bad?

I'm not sure how long it will take to break in the new clutch but...

Whenever I get shudder...I'll do a nice gentle clutch slipping launch (enough to just get a hint of burning clutch smell) and then the shudder goes away for a week or two. Weird I know...but it's a proven fix at least on my car!

I had the clutch shudder and noticed over a year ago and learned to slip my clutch and the problem morphed over time. What happened in my situation is that the throw out bearing went bad and the car drove like it had a clutch with 150K on it ..........by the time it had 21K miles on it

The dealer here in Sacramento did the "fix" on it and as of two weeks ago and it runs Perfect. Zero shudder and pulls great. The "fix" included a throw out bearings, new clutch plates and a flywheel. Here's the clincher though. The new "fix" flywheel is heavier than the stock MY02 flywheel. So sytran did you get a new flywheel too????

I was talking with Gino about this last week as he was doing some work on my car,,, and he knew all about the heavier flywheel "fix" for the shudder problem.

veloLexus: I do not know the weight difference of the flywheel "Fix" for MY02. Gino at Mpj might.

I assume the part is the same weight and piece that is on the MY03. Perhaps a partsguy at Subaru could tell you the difference.

Damn, im getting mine done at maita soon too. The parts are on order an they are gonna call me as soon as they come in. If the shudder still occurs can you not take it back and get it replaced again, and if it still continues get it replaced once more, then after that the lemon law comes into effect?

How bad is clutch shudder/chatter for your car? I realize it puts some strain on various parts more than you would in normal use. But just how bad is this?

If I replace the clutch and the flywheel with aftermarket/performance parts (and they are well made) this should clear it up right?

its not as bad as it used to be, but when i had my old clutch in, the problem would go away after the car warmed up and wouldnt come back. Now with the new clutch, it doesnt do it all the time but shudders(not as bad as old clutch when cold, but still noticable) every now and then even when the car is warm.

just got it fixed...

I had mine replaced a few weeks ago, Everything is fine with no shuttering anymore even when cold. Bruce took good care of me in SC with a couple rattles too! My only gripe is that the new clutch is even softer than the old one... WAY too soft... feels like a little sissy pedal Anyone no a way to make it stiffer (spare the dirty jokes)???

My replacement one was fubared too...

I had mine done a couple weeks ago and the replacement resulted in a hard pedal and hot/cold stutter. They took it in again and replace the pressure plate again... now it has a soft pedal and almost perfect engagement.
