In the hills about 2 miles from downtown San Carlos (you can see 101 and Redwood Shores from the house). You can get to 101 / 280 / 92 in about 5 minutes.

I just couldn't see paying $900/mo for a room. I'm used to prices out here though - my 1 bed apartment in a really nice complex was $1010/mo.. I know it's a lot more expensive out there.

If someone on the boards lived somewhere like Montana or Wyoming, they would think that the thousand bucks a month you paid for 1-bedroom was outrageous. Location has everything to do with it.

I agree. Rents in the small town in Iowa where I was last week are like $400/mo for an apartment. Of course that town sucks ***..but still.

that's pretty funny comparing an apartment complex to a house like that in the San Carlos hills.

Nah, it's just 'sticker shock' at the cost of living differences of less than 120 miles distance. I can hardly believe it myself because I have friends that bought homes in both the City and the East Bay (Pleasant Hill, Concord, San Ramon). Most recently, some friends bought their new home in San Ramon for $700,000+! It isn't even that large by Sacramento standards, maybe 2400 sq. ft.

That's a friggin' deal. I just moved out of a 525sqft studio apartment in Walnuit Creek that I was paying $900 a month for! The place was so small you coud talk to someone doing dishes while you were on the john! I wish this place was up for rent about a month ago... now I'm stuck living in Antioch. :-(
